UIC Art Education alumnus Kevin Dill awarded Master's Degree in Education
Kevin Dill graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education (BFAAE) in spring 2021. Then, Kevin accepted a full-time art teaching position at Albany Park Multicultural Academy and started a Master's degree in Education in the College of Education at UIC. Please join us in congratulating Kevin on becoming a double degree holder. He graduated with a Master's in Language, Literacies, and Learning in Dec 2022.

Congratulations to Professor Deborah Stratman, and alums Mary Helena Clark (MFA ’12) and Mike Gibisser (MFA ’11) for having their films selected for the 2023 Sundance Film Festival under the New Frontier Films category!
The 2023 Festival will take place January 19–29, 2023, in person in Park City, Salt Lake City, and the Sundance Resort, along with a selection of films available online across the country January 24–29, 2023. “New Frontier champions artists who engage in experimental storytelling at the crossroads of film, art, performance, and media technology, showcasing cutting-edge work that explores and evolves cinema culture in today’s rapidly changing landscape. New Frontier is presently in a process of reimagination.”

Latham Zearfoss Artist-In-Residence at Tiger Strikes Asteroid
“Tiger Strikes Asteroid Chicago is pleased to announce that Latham Zearfoss [MFA ‘11] will be our next artist in residence. This residency will allow Zearfoss the opportunity to execute a new iteration of his ongoing “Stalagmite Creamsicles” project, a seasonally-iterative body of work comprised of ice sculptures dyed with natural dyes that contain seeds for a native garden that will bloom where they are left to melt.” Congrats, Latham! Ground Floor 2022 opened recently at the Hyde Park Art Center and features alums Juan Baños Fonseca (MFA ‘22), and Nick Jackson (MFA ‘21)!
This edition presents paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, fiber, photographs, new media, and performance work that propose alternative ways to see the world, different relationships between the body and nature and new perspectives of history.
This ongoing Biennial exhibition since 2010, brings together work by Chicago’s most promising emerging talent. The exhibition offers a single destination to discover artists, who have recently graduated (in 2021 and 2022) from one of Chicago’s five outstanding MFA programs and whose work demands to be seen and supported. Ground Floor presents art made in the past couple of years in hopes to investigate and articulate conceptual and stylistic trends coming out of Chicago art schools right now.

Call for Submissions – ENCOUNTER
Artist Jason Lazarus invites current and former Chicagoland artists to participate in a public art project at the Chicago Cultural Center they are organizing titled ENCOUNTER, running through January 15, 2023.
"The exhibition seeks to feature small handmade ‘drawings’ by current or former Chicago artist-residents visualizing a TRANSFORMATIVE encounter with a single artwork they had somewhere in Chicago while living in the city. This is a chance to acknowledge a work (and its maker) who helped us see what is possible, urgent, relevant, and liberating."
