M&S Love for Valentine’s Day!

Let’s take a moment and transform Valentine’s Day! Show the people in your life how much you love them by supporting Mission and Service, which is the heart and soul of The United Church of Canada, through these ways:
  1. In honour of someone you love, post one of these hearts to your Facebook page. Let’s plaster Facebook with hearts for God’s Mission!
  2. Make a donation to Mission and Service and receive a beautiful Valentine thank you.
  3. Create 10 love rocks and leave them in places and with people to let them know they are surrounded by God’s love.
  4. Volunteer with a Mission and Service partner in Canada. See this list of partners [PDF]

Thanks a Million!

Thanks a million for your generosity! Together we have given over $1 million to our Mission and Service partners through Gifts with Vision!
The Gifts with Vision program created by the people of The United Church of Canada provides a way to give gifts that change the world and support our Mission and Service partners with additional funds for projects.
  • Since 2011, 102 partners have participated in Gifts with Vision.
  • Five of these partners are Aboriginal, 43 are other Canadian ministries and organizations, and 54 are global.
  • We have touched the lives of people in 79 communities—35 of those in Canada and 44 in 18 countries around the world.
Thank you for making Gifts with Vision part of your gift-giving. Let’s continue to honour our loved ones with unique and world-changing gifts for Valentine’s, birthdays, graduations, weddings, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Christmas and other times of celebration. Thanks a million for your generosity!

Annual Giving Letters

To be successful, an annual giving program—and the letters which are part of the communication plan—must do three things: Inspire! Ask! Thank!

Take a look at the Stewardship Toolkit for annual giving resources that provides your congregation with helpful hints, recommendations, and lots of sample letters to help your annual giving program be the best it can be.

Giving Report for 2014 M&S

We are now up to 838 pastoral charges (38% of all of our pastoral charges) that have increased giving for M&S in 2014! We have blessed God’s mission with our generosity in 2014. The giving report for 2014 Mission and Service will be posted on the Stewardship Toolkit at the end of February.

Congregational Giving Goal

Setting a congregational giving goal for Mission and Service gives us something to work on together as a community. Please include in your congregational giving goals a plan to increase the number of people who are making a meaningful annual gift for Mission and Service. It is an opportunity to ask people who did not give to M&S last year to make this the year that they make giving to M&S an ongoing part of their faith.

  • Look at your M&S numbers - your giving history, the number of givers, and the average gift for M&S in your congregation
  • Set your 2015 M&S goals
  • The congregation approves – at a board, council, or congregational meeting
  • Complete the 2015 M&S covenant form online, fax it, mail it, or phone by March 6, 2015

The Stewarding Self

What difference does it make if we give, or don’t? Dr. Rob Fennell, Associate Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology at Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax, explored this question and related topics in a webinar that is available here. An ordained minister of the United Church for 20 years, Rob is passionate about nurturing effective leaders and faithful disciples.
The webinar focused theologically on three areas: our faith in a self-giving God; the character of giving in the Bible; and the ways in which human nature and Christian identity are formed by acts of giving. It is geared toward ministry leaders as well as anyone who is committed to the future of the church.

Your generosity enables the United Church to love, serve, and minister in the world. Make an online donation here or learn more about your options to support the work of the church.
The Stewardship Toolkit offers resources developed for and by congregational and community leaders of The United Church of Canada and other denominations.
