Founded in 1981, Touchstone Theatre is a professional not-for-profit theatre dedicated to the creation of original work. At its center is a resident ensemble of theatre artists rooted in the local community of Bethlehem, the Greater Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania and the international community of ensemble theatres.

That said, I am embarrassed that this was the first time I walked through its doors.  I feel in love with the charm - without a doubt Touchstone Theatre has found a spot in my soul.  I look forward to seeing one of their shows.

The 2013 - 2014 line up is:
  • The Little Farm Show - September 7th 1 PM (Tickets FREE!!!)
  • Darwinii: The Comeuppance of Man - October 4th and 5th 8 PM
  • D-Generation: An Exaltation of Larks - November 14 - 16 at 8PM and November 17 at 2PM
  • Christmas City Follies XIV - December 5 through December 22nd - times vary

I was surprised to learn about The Young Playwrights' Lab - an award-winning after-school program where over the course of 8 weeks students learn fundamental play writing concepts on their feet through theatre games and improvisation, as well as through writing exploration. Then in the spring, 6-8 plays from among all of the participating schools are selected for performance live onstage.  The Festival has been called "the most magical night of theatre in the Lehigh Valley".  How come programs like these weren't offered when I was in school?  This is an incredible opportunity for students to learn and discover what makes them happy.  One of the students said "I have just discovered that I can express what I can imagine.  I have never thought of anything like that before".  Pretty incredible!

Can't you just imagine your pre-teen attending the Camp Touchstone: (ages 9-13)?  It is a  two-week summer theatre day camp, where campers are guided through the process of creating original theatre as an “Ensemble.”  Led by Touchstone teaching artists, participants gain experience in acting, playwriting, improvisation, movement, and character development…while developing self-confidence, creative expression, and skills of group collaboration.  Camp Touchstone is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for young people to discover their unique artistic voices in a playful and encouraging environment.  The program culminates in a theatrical presentation for friends and family onstage in Touchstone’s intimate 75-seat theatre.

Camp Touchstone 2014 will take place Monday-Friday, July 7 – 18, 2014 9am-2pm.

Have older kids?  Not a problem - look into Teen Ensemble: (ages 13-19) Touchstone’s Artistic Director introduces interested teens of all experience levels to the exciting art of theatre performance, playwriting, and the process of creating original theatre as an “ensemble”. This is a one-week summer program that culminates in a completely original show created and performed by the teen artists.

Teen Ensemble 2014 will take place Monday-Friday, June 23-27, 2014, 1-4pm, at Touchstone. Performance is on June 27th at 6pm.

Tuition is FREE for Southside residents thanks to a Southside Vision 2014 grant. How incredible is that??

Thank you Emma Chong for allowing me an opportunity to speak with you in detail about your programs.  It is refreshing to see an educational and fun program being offered.  It is rewarding for the campers to discover their own voices through creating their own original materials, characters and stories.  If you would like additional information feel free to contact Emma Chong at: emma@touchstone.org..
