Back to School Party

On August 29 we hosted a Back to School Party for our Somerset Manor residents. Thanks to our valued partner, Extreme Family Outreach, each child received a school supply bag filled with the essential items needed for the first day of school on September 4.

In addition to sharing much-needed supplies, party guests also enjoyed a Family Game Night that gave everyone the opportunity to participate.  We played Housing Feud with Resident and Housing Staff teams going head to head.  Not only was our resident team victorious but everyone left the event geared up to help make our community's children school year successful.

Resident Voices:  The Results of Our Community Survey

At the beginning of July, our Resident Services and Self-Sufficiency Department distributed Community Needs Assessments to each household living within our Somerset Manor community.  The purpose of this 3 page survey was to get opinions on what needs HDGHA can help address. We learned that:
  • Income/Wages are problems for 55% of households
  • Debt and Financial Security are problems for 58% of households
  • Increasing Income and Saving Money were interests for most households
  • Dental Care; Nutrition and Exercise Programs; and Services for Stress, Anxiety and Depression are seen as unaddressed primary health care needs by many households
What happens next?
The goal of the HDGHA Team is to assist each of our residents with achieving economic independence and stability.  To help address their needs we will:
  • Build new partnerships to bring more supportive services to our community
  • Coordinate more educational and community events to provide access to the needs identified in the survey
  • Increase one on one case management and coaching to offer individualized goal setting, education and resource referrals
  • Offer creative engagement activities that build resident capacity
Can your organization help with any of the above identified services?  We want to partner with you!  Contact Jackie at jackie@hdgha.org to connect with us.

Support the 2018-2019
Families of Hope Campaign

The SUCCESS Project 2018-2019 Families of Hope campaign is officially underway!  This year there are 3 participants all of whom have been taking steps to achieve economic self-sufficiency.  With your help, they can meet another goal as they continue to strive toward financial independence. Your support will also help them help others since half of all donations will benefit The SUCCESS Project by expanding and enhancing services. You can help by donating to a nominee's cause, supporting a nominee in the HOPE Candle Fundraiser (see below), and by purchasing tickets to the Celebration of Hope on November 2.  Look for more info about each nominee on the Families of Hope event page soon.

Give the Gift of HOPE...Literally!

AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME! HOPE Candles and Melts are made by HDGHA clients and staff.  These all-natural, non-toxic products are made from 100% soy wax and feature a delightful fragrance.

The BEST part is that their purchase will help our Families of Hope nominees on their journey to economic independence AND enhance the SUCCESS Project self-sufficiency programs that benefit Harford and Cecil County families! 16 oz jar candles are $15.90; 6-pack of melts is $5.30. Designate which nominee the purchase benefits when you order.

Keep the light of hope alive and order your HOPE Candles and Melts today!
