HDGHA celebrated the National “Night Out” Against Crime on August 7th--our 7th year of participation in this event, which was designed to help unite neighbors to help with crime prevention. Our community has become stronger and more connected each year as neighbors become friends who really look out and care for one another.
This year's gathering was another fun evening that brought everyone outside to mix and mingle, and also gave residents and local law enforcement the chance to chat, share concerns and learn about crime prevention and Block Watch efforts. Our community designation as "the safest in Havre de Grace" has been achieved in partnership with our Havre de Grace Police Department, so we salute them for their commitment to keeping us safe and working in partnership with us. Coming together in this way sends a message to criminals that our community is working together, fighting against crime! Thanks to all who were able to attend.
If you’re looking for great ways to bring your fellow neighbors together and continue the celebration, here are a few basic tips that can be used to plan any type of community celebration:
- Talk with fellow your neighbors to share ideas about how to highlight your street’s assets and unique characteristics. Pick a date and reserve a location.
- Invite anyone and everyone nearby, and have flyers translated into languages spoken in your community.
- Serve a variety of food, make it a potluck, cook a feast or order some pizza. Every event is better with food!
- Recruit creative people to lead an arts and crafts project or games for the little ones.
- Ask local organizations and businesses to join in. They might be interested in donating supplies or sponsoring activities.
