Four Thought Friday

Four Thought Friday

Since this week marks the launch of our #PembertonInnovates Twitter Challenge, I've decided to dedicate this edition of Four Thought Friday to Twitter and PLNs (or personal learning networks). As always, you can click the Past Issues button above, to check out our previous issues. Enjoy!
1. An article I'm reading —
Newcomb Middle School counselor, Carrie Peck, recently shared this article with me. It helps explain why educators are flocking to Twitter (pun intended) and why school leadership associations are recommending it as a form of professional development. Why teachers are turning to Twitter via The Conversation
2. A video I'm watching —
Now that we understand the "why," this brief video will help get you started on "how" to start your PLN on Twitter. It was created by Common Sense Education, who happen to offer some of the best (and free) digital citizenship resources around. Starting a PLN on Twitter: A Quick Guide For Teachers
3. A tool I'm using —
As you get comfortable with Twitter and your PLN grows, you may begin looking for ways to organize the people and hashtags you want to follow. A tool I use for this is called TweetDeck. This tool allows users to create a column for each hashtag or list, which update in real time. It is truly one of the best free Twitter tools that exists. TweetDeck
4. A podcast episode I'm listening to —
While this podcast episode doesn't technically discuss Twitter, it includes an interview with the founder of Nerdcamp NJ, Oona Abrams. Nerdcamp NJ is a great example of how Twitter can bring educators and authors together to celebrate learning. As a bonus, I will tweet out a special congrats to anyone who can correctly identify which Pemberton educator was mentioned in the episode. Talk Nerdy To Me with Oona Abrams via PodcastPD
