December 2015 - Year-End Update
-- To UnityWorks Team Members and Supporters --
Friends, what a year this has been!
Our pilot program began in the Yakima School District in August of 2014. In the fifteen months which followed, through your efforts and support, together we have:
  • Established a diverse and experienced Leadership Team for the Yakima area.

  • Enrolled eight schools in the Program, with four more now being added for 2016.

  • Conducted two 40-hour Training Institutes for site teams from participating schools. (Teams include teachers, principals, students, parents and community members.)

  • Offered continuing education clock hours for the training participants.

  • Assisted teams with development of their Diversity Action Plans.

  • Organized site visits to the schools to share ideas and offer support.                         (Our spring newsletter will feature some of their great activities and plans!)

  • Hosted our first Spring Multicultural Conference in May.

  • Hired a Program Administrator and an Administrative Assistant.

  • Created an introductory PowerPoint about the Program for your use.

  • Shared highlights of our work at conferences in Boston, MA and Springfield, IL.

  • Prepared a series of short video testimonials for our website.

  • Translated our children’s PowerPoint on Unity into Russian and Spanish.

  • Added several other diversity resources to our online bookstore.

Thank You!

We are grateful to our local Leadership Team, to the Yakima School District, to Dr. Nancy McHenry, who continues to coordinate this effort on behalf of the District, and to the Yakima Valley Community Foundation, the Rabbani Trust, and many individual donors for their generous support.
