Important activities

Call for essays 2014
The Latin America - Asia Pacific Observatory launches the invitation for the presentation of the essays about the economic and trade relations between Latin America and Asia Pacific. 

This competition is destined to all undergraduate and graduate students (up to the master’s level) of all nationalities.


The works have to be presented in order to the regulations mentioned on the web before the 29th August 2014, at the email observatorio@aladi.org and observatorio.coordinador@aladi.org.

VIII Business Chamber China-Latin America will debate about the change of quantity by quality in cooperation
At the VIII Business Summit China-Latin America and the Caribbean, to be held from 12 to 13 September in Changsha, capital of the Chinese central province of Hunan, there will be a debate about "changing quantity by quality" as regards economic and commercial cooperation between China and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Universidad de La Habana and the Beijing Institute of Technology enhance links in the research sector
An academic delegation of the Universidad de La Habana led by the Head of the Department of International Projects, Marianela Constanten Macías, visited the Institute of Technology of Beijing, where she was received by the Director of the International Office, Dr. Wang Qinglin. (News in spanish).

Ibero-American Day of Chinese Studies, La Plata, 25 November 2014
The Instituto Confucio UNLP with the Center of Chinese Studies of the Department Asia Pacific IRI UNLP invite the whole local, national and international academic community to participate in this  Jornada Iberoamericana de Estudios Chinos (Ibero-American Meeting on Chinese Studies) to be held at our Headquarters on 25 November 2014. The IBF Executive Programme is jointly organised by International Enterprise (IE) Singapore and Singapore Business Federation (SBF).

Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Magali Silva will lead EXPOPERU CHINA
Led by the Minister of Foreing Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva Velarde–Álvarez, and with the participation of 35 small and medium peruvian business of the sectors: agribusiness, fishing, clothing, manufactures and tourism, the EXPOPERU China was held in Beijing and Shanghai from 15 to 18 July.  (News in spanish).


Agreements and negotiations

Economic and commercial cooperation with Cuba is highlighted in Vietnam
The media reported the working meetings held by a Vietnamese delegation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade with Cuban equivalent authorities. The delegation of the Asian country was led by the Vice-Minister Tran Tuan Anh. (News in spanish).

Peru and Indonesia agree on a plan for increasing the bilateral trade
The Governments of Peru and Indonesia agreed on a program including specific actions aimed at increasing the bilateral trade. (News in spanish).

China expects further cooperation with Latin America
China hopes that President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit will promote further cooperation with Latin American countries, Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong said here Monday.

Joint interview in writing of the President Xi Jinping with the media of four Latin-American countries
On 14 July 2014, on the eve of the Sixth Summit of BRICS, to pay State visits to Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and Cuba, as well as to attend the interview of liders of China and the Latin-American and Caribbean countries, the President of State Xi Jinping granted a joint interview in writing to four Latin-American countries. Sixth Agreement Round with Japan ends with the closure of three chapters
After five days of meetings between the negotiating teams of Colombia and Japan, the Sixth Negotiations Round for an Economic Partnership Agreement between both countries ended today in Bogota. Three issues were concluded in such meeting: competence, telecommunications and temporary entry of business people. (News in spanish).
 
TPP Officials Meeting (July 2014)
The Department hosted a TPP officials’ meeting from July 3 to July 12, 2014 in Ottawa. This meeting followed previous officials’ meetings that Canada has participated in since joining the TPP in October 2012.

BRICS development bank good for global recovery
The development bank initiated by BRICS will stimulate global economic recovery and drive up long-term growth, China's Ministry of Finance said on Wednesday.

Argentina and the People’s Republic of China signed an agreement establishing their Integral Strategic Partnership
The Presidents Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Xi Jinping also signed cooperation agreements regarding economic, commercial, financial, nuclear and cultural matters, including the financing by China of 4,714 billion dollars for the dam "Kirchner-Cepernic". (News in spanish).

Xi hails China-Brazil as "community of shared destiny"
Chinese President Xi Jinping told Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff here Thursday that China and Brazil have become "community of shared destiny" after 40 years' development of bilateral ties.

Xi hails CELAC Quartet as "good partner" of China
Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday that the Quartet members of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) are "good friends" and "good partners" of China.

Venezuela will sign an agreement with China for the acquisition of 1,500 new buses
During the visit of the President of China Xi Jinping to Venezuela, both Presidents signed cooperation agreements on energy, economy and social matters; among them, the acquisition of the units "for opening services of modern transportation, of maximum quality in the whole country", stated Maduro in State Lara, where he led the day of Efficiency Government  on the Street.  President of the People’s Republic of China begins official visit to Cuba
The President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, arrived at Havana, in an official visit aimed at strengthening the traditional friendship and cooperation relations that join both countries. (News in spanish).
