Newsletter No 3 - 10th February 2014

The weather once again was not in our favour and confined the work mainly to the engine room, With plenty of tea and a fire in the galley and fo’castle stoves it made work much more agreeable.
Saturday 8th February 2014
Present: Steve, Brian, Pam, Bill, Joanna, Julian, Jim and Tony
Work continued on the condenser and the end plates were eventually removed to reveal a thick layer of silt on the division plate. There are a considerable number of tubes with complete or partial blockage on the lower half of the tube bank on the inlet side below the division plate.  Work commenced on unblocking the tubes and will be continued next visit.

The division plate on the condenser inlet end will need careful descaling to find the extent of the corrosion, the dished cover from the outboard end will also need a thorough clean to determine its condition.  The 2 salt water pump valve assemblies were removed and checked and the housing and waterways checked for any blockage where accessible.  The hold bilge was pumped out.  The ash bins were loaded into Julian’s landrover for disposal.

Next working party – Saturday 22nd February 2014
Work programme:
Continue work on the condenser and the engine driven pumps.
General cleaning and maintenance of the engine room.
Weather permitting – external maintenance.
