Different Perspectives: Managing Invasive Species in St. Lawrence County, NY
Want to learn more about managing for invasive species? Come and learn what our partners across the border at St. Lawrence County are doing to manage for invasive forest pests, some of which have not yet arrived in Ontario.
This year's guest speaker will be Paul Hetzler, Horticulture and Natural Resources Educator from Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County, NY. Paul will talk about the developing threats of invasive species south of the border and the approach that is being taken by Cornell Cooperative Centre to prepare and manage these threats. He will also discuss the challenges with regards to cross boundary collaboration and how working together is important for invasive species management. There will also be an update on the Regional Forest Health Network provided by EOMF board member Jim McCready, and we will have the opportunity to learn from host Geoff McVey what Leeds and Grenville Counties are doing to control invasive plant species. For those interested, Geoff will also provide an after lunch tour of buckthorn management in Limerick Forest.
The event will run from 9:00 - 3:00 at Limerick Forest Interpretive Centre located at 1175 Limerick Rd., Oxford Station, ON. The cost for the event is $40 and includes a warm lunch. Payment can be made online by PayPal, Visa or MasterCard or by calling 613-713-1525.
We hope to see you on June 19th!
