We would like to let our EOMF community know that Jim Hendry is retiring from the Model Forest and will be working his last day this Friday, February 26, 2021. Jim has been Certification Coordinator for the last 5 years where he has continued to maintain and enhance our Forest Certification Program that has been in place for almost 20 years.
Through his time at the EOMF, his strength in working with people and building partnerships has been a key to ensuring the successful delivery of the Certification Program. Jim also took a strong lead in establishing the new Carbon Offset program for community forests, a program which has been growing and has a promising future for the EOMF and our partners.
Prior to working at the EOMF, Jim spent 27 years working in private land management across Eastern Ontario. After graduating from UNB, and working on several contract positions, Jim began his career with the MNRF as Management Forester in Cornwall in 1989. In 1995, he became Stewardship Coordinator for SDG, a role that suited him well with his ability to forge strong relationships with partners. Jim stayed with the MNRF until 2012 when he moved over to South Nation Conservation where he worked as a Management Forester and Team Lead – Property.
Jim has contributed so much of his time to private land forestry that he was recognized for these efforts in 2012 with the EOMF Silversides Award, an annual award recognizing outstanding contributions to the vision of sustainable forestry.
As much as we will miss Jim at the EOMF, we know that he is going have lots of fun in this next stage of his life doing more of what he loves to do, such as making maple syrup, spending more time with his family, hiking, kayaking, etc.
Thanks, Jim, for all your contributions and all the best for a happy and healthy retirement!
From the board and staff at the EOMF
