Run, Isaiah, run

Junior sprinter Isaiah Taylor was known for his speed from a young age. Classmates would challenge each other to race him – "You are fast, but you can't beat Isaiah" – so Taylor realized he had something special. 

In ninth grade, Taylor wrote his vision in an email, saying he would make a name for himself at his high school and he would earn a scholarship to UM for his sport. Check. Read his story here
In other news...

A silver convertible that belonged to the student driver is pulled out of a canal that leads into Lake Osceola. The incident began when the driver sped up to cut off another vehicle for a parking spot, according to officers on the scene. Photo: Isabella Cueto 

Dude, where's my car? 
No injuries, but one very damaged car was the outcome of an incident on campus last night during which a student drove his vehicle into the canal next to Whitten University Center. The driver reportedly lost control while speeding up to take someone else's parking spot

Not all heroes wear capes. That's what columnist Dana Munro discovered when she decided to bridge the gap between herself and service workers around campus. She found ex-dancers, entrepreneurs, full-time parents and a reminder that everyone could use a smile or a kind hello. 

No suprise...Freshman star Lonnie Walker IV (whose iconic "pineapple" hair graced our cover in January) is officially a one-and-done college basketball player. He joined two other Canes in declaring for the 2018 NBA draft, but he's the only one who hired an agent, meaning he's outta here. Walker is projected to be a first-round pick in the draft.
