It's Wednesday, February 14. Happy Valentine's Day.

Your best Valentine will always be yourself

The staff of The Miami Hurricane loves Valentine's Day. This year, we celebrated with absolute gluttony. We ate all the snacks pictured above (except those cinnamon hearts, which are shockingly nasty).

Your plans for today might involve a similar pattern of eating, sugar-fueled dancing and crashing, plus a little romance here and there, but don't forget to show yourself some love, too.

This week, our resident sex-pert V took over TMH and demanded we write a staff editorial about sex. We obliged (V is very convincing) and then we explored the reasons why and the  ways  in which we lower our standards when it comes to sex. Let's kick that habit and be vocal about our desires

Communication is key, after all. The couples we spoke to who are in long distance relationships agreed. Some worked – thanks, in part, to FaceTime  – and some didn't, but they all required personal growth and accountability, so these lovebirds learned a lot from their experiences.

If you're not in a long distance relationship or furiously swiping through pools of deadbeat fish, why not treat yourself and your honey to a nice outing? Trust us, these dates are much better options than your original idea of buying a dusty chocolate box and calling it a day.
"I am grateful to have been loved and to be loved now and to be able to love, because that liberates. Love liberates, it doesn't just hold – that's ego. Love liberates. It doesn't bind."
Maya Angelou
P.S. Today is also Ash Wednesday. It's a meaningful day for many students because it marks the start of Lent, a time to grow closer to God. There will be a mass at 1 p.m. at the UC Patio.

Here are a few other places you can attend a service on or near campus:
St. Augustine Church & Catholic Student Center (website), 1400 Miller Rd
Chapel of the Venerable Bede, Episcopal Church Center (more info), 1150 Stanford Drive
Riviera Presbyterian Church (more info), 5727 Sunset Drive
Church of the Little Flower (website), 2711 Indian Mound Trail
Have a great week.
