Bioenergy Day 2016 Highlights

Thank You

On behalf of all the Bioenergy Day sponsors, organizers and participants, thank you to each and every one of you for your hard work that made the Fourth Annual Bioenergy Day a success! In all, there were nearly 40 events held in the United States and Canada. A few of the day's highlights included:

  • A panel discussion in Toronto hosted by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and Ontario Power Generation (70 attendees)
  • A family and kids bioenergy festival in Tennessee hosted by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and University of Tennessee Knoxville (166 attendees)
  • A jobs fair and informational session at Iowa State University
  • Official recognition by State of California Senator Andy Vidak of Rio Bravo Fresno and its commitment to forest health
  • Local elected official appreciation day at ReEnergy Ashland in Maine
  • A partnership announced between Drax Biomass and local Baton Rouge environmental NGO to protect forested wetlands
  • Public TV and radio segments in Minnesota arranged by Minnesota Power and the U.S. Forest Service
  • Tweets by three members of Congress (Rep. Ann Kuster (D-NH), Rep. Bruce Poliquin (R-ME) and Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA)), the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Forest Service
  • A Twitter "Thunderclap" arranged by the Pennsylvania Biomass Energy Association which reached an estimated 177,000 social media users

Other groups marked the day with demonstrations of heating technology, facility tours, op-eds, blog posts, discounts for customers and lots of social media activity. Additionally, our video on biomass power in California has received a cumulative 950+ views. Last year's video on the forest products industry in Maine has received nearly 3,000 views.

Below are some media and blog highlights. If there are any I've missed, please let us know! Thanks again for your support for Bioenergy Day! The collaborative effort by so many businesses, universities, and governments supporting bioenergy in its many forms enables us to emphasize the many benefits of bioenergy.

Finally, we would appreciate feedback on Bioenergy Day 2016. What went well and what improvements can we make? Please let us know by emailing Carrie Annand at
