As of this month, Government legislation has made it compulsory for all childcare Level 2 and 3 qualifications to include paediatric first aid training. All newly-qualified staff with a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in childcare must complete an additional qualification in emergency or full paediatric first aid.
These changes have been made in response to a campaign and online petition by Joanne and Dan Thompson, the parents of tragic Millie Thompson who passed away on her third day at nursery in 2012 after a choking incident. Her parents have worked hard to ensure that newly qualified staff must have paediatric first aid training.
Nurseries who have 100% of their staff trained in paediatric first aid will be able to display a new kitemark, 'Millie's Mark', that will reassure parents that their child is safe and being cared for by knowledgeable and appropriately trained staff.
Hoople offers regular paediatric first aid training programmes. Run over two days, the next available dates are:
- Monday 26 September/Tuesday 27 September 2016
- Monday 27 February/Tuesday 28 February 2016
