The Frequency

KRCU's e-newsletter for Sept. 2016

It's a busy time at KRCU as we get ready for our Fall Pledge Drive and some upcoming events to engage with our listeners and the broader community. Plus, there's a new host for A Prairie Home Companion and host changes coming to NPR's Morning Edition later this year. We'll give you the scoop right here on "The Frequency."

Fall Pledge Drive - October 5-12
Over 25 years ago, KRCU began a transformation – from a 100 watt local station to a two-station regional broadcast outlet.  Throughout this transformation we have held close to our mission of being “local with a national portfolio”.

Your annual gifts have allowed us to maintain a program schedule that is carefully curated to meet the listening needs of such a diverse listening area. Your gift during our Fall Pledge Drive will propel our station through new technological obstacles and help us maintain the programming you love. Our goal this fall is $50,000. You can make your gift anytime at krcu.org/give.

Join 90.9/88.9 KRCU for a discussion on the intersection of "Black and Blue Lives Matter." A panel consisting of Police Chief Wes Blair, Dr. Hamner Hill and other guests will offer information and will take questions from the audience. It will take place on Thursday, September 29 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Details are at krcu.org/diversity
On Sunday, October 23, take a ride with KRCU to the breweries and "booeries" of St. Louis. Combining ghost tours with tours of breweries, this trip is sure to excite the mind and palette. Details are at krcu.org/ghost.

Every Friday at 7:31 a.m. and 5:18 p.m., Nate Saverino highlights Southeast players, coaches and more during the "Two-Minute Drill." Keep up with the Redhawks on KRCU! Learn more.

Beginning October, 2016, musician extraordinaire Chris Thile will take over for Garrison Keillor as the new host of A Prairie Home Companion. Chris' wide range of musical taste, paired with his vast network of famous and talented friends, will draw new, diverse talent to public radio. Read a letter from Chris about his upbringing and his vision for the show.
Mornings on NPR will sound a little different, thanks to a cascade of host changes triggered by Renee Montagne's departure as Morning Edition co-host.

Rachel Martin, currently host of Weekend Edition Sunday, will be joining David Greene and Steve Inskeep as co-host on weekday mornings. Read more.
