The sport of golf is very fortunate to be part of the Power Smart Manitoba Games. Similar to the Olympics, these Games take place every four years with the next one taking place in 2016.

Golf Manitoba is establishing a PowerSmart Manitoba Games Regional Training Squad program for the 2016 golf season. The program offered by Golf Manitoba will be similar to 2012, which saw many of the participating players move on to become some of the top junior golfers in the province. Participants of the program are required to be 15 years old or younger (boys) and 17 years old or younger (girls) on August 10th, 2016.

Eight different regions will have access to coaching by a Golf Professional commencing in the spring of 2016. Each Training Squad Member will receive a minimum of 20 hours of training in preparation for a 36 hole qualifier (date and location TBD) to represent their region at the 2016 PowerSmart Manitoba Games in Steinbach, August 7 - 10.

Regional Coaches
Central Greg Hesom, Winkler G C
Eastman Brian Guenther, Steinbach Fly-In G C
Interlake Dave McMillan, Elmhurst
Parkland TBD
Norman Rance Stangeland, Halcrow Lake G C
Westman Dave Scinocca, Shilo C C
Winnipeg Blue Darren McMillan, TBD
Winnipeg Gold Tom Kinsman, Southwood G & C C

Would you like to learn about the Rules of Golf?  Golf Manitoba is once again offering Winter Rules Sessions for those who want to learn more.  No prior knowledge is required, just come and learn in a relaxed setting with those of a similar interest.  The sessions are from 7:00 p.m. to approximately 9:00 p.m.  Public welcome!
  • March 16 - Glendale Country Club
  • April 6 - Southwood Golf & Country Club
Please email the Golf Manitoba office at to rsvp your attendance.  The sessions are free for all that attend.

There will be a slight change to the format this year with approximately 1/3 of the time being spent on a rules presentation, 1/3 of the time on working through actual golf hole scenarios to see how rules apply in certain situations and the remaining 1/3 of the time answering any questions that are asked by the attendees verbally or in writing.

These will be “no pressure” seminars and attendees can participate as much as they want or they can sit back and just listen.

The presentation portion of the seminars will be:

March 16 - “I Wish I Knew That - The Most Common Rules that You Will Face and How Knowing Them Can Help Your Score”
April 6 -  “Rules in Review - Getting You Ready for the New Season”

The 2016 Championship Schedule is set and online registration will begin April 15th.

The 2016 Spring Information Meeting will be held Saturday, April 23rd at the Elmhurst Golf & Country Club.

The Golf Manitoba Spring Information meeting is an important part of communications outreach to all golfers and member clubs.  It provides the opportunity for questions or to seek clarity on any Golf Manitoba or Golf Canada initiatives or programs. Representatives from Golf Manitoba and Golf Canada will be at the Spring Information Meeting to present the information.

Annually we request that each member club provide us with the name of a male and female representative to assist Golf Manitoba in communicating with our clubs. If your club has not provided us with this information, please do so as soon as possible. Invitations to these representatives as well as other club officials will be sent out soon.

We believe that the Information Session is very informative and hope representatives from each club will be able to attend.
