TAKE AN ART WALK

In the Words of Ross from Friends, PIVOT!

Suffice it to say we can all include "adaptability" in our list of LinkedIn skills. While Johnny Spero's Georgetown restaurant, Reverie, takes a brief hiatus amid shifting COVID restrictions, the chef has turned his space at 3201 Cherry Hill Lane into a pizza pop-up. The new concept, called Lonely Hunter, will be open through at least the end of January, featuring pizza that's a hybrid of Neopolitan and Italian-Greek deck-oven styles. The 12-inch pizzas include the Nduja with braised fennel, boschetto al tartufo cheese, and tomato sauce; a potato pizza featuring bravas sauce, confit potato, parsley, mozzarella, and stracciatella; and a clam pizza with white sauce. If you're in the mood for something else, try the scallop crudo, or the smash burger with American cheese, Reverie sauce, dill pickles, and white onion. The Lonely Hunter menu is available for pick-up, delivery, and heated patio dining.

RIP, Holiday Cards Somewhere in Ohio

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays the Postal Service couriers. No, just online sales. For those whose first batch of holiday cards appear to be in permanent postal purgatory, we've got a new holiday backdrop for your do-overs - and a fun 2021 activity for everyone else who's given up. Creative design and marketing firm Streetsense has partnered with multimedia studio Creative JunkFood to design the new light art installation Winter Wonderlights, now on display at Georgetown's Washington Harbour. Kick off the new year with a stroll through this installation, featuring several festive lightboxes with a variety of winter landscapes and changing colors. The picture-perfect, outdoor backdrop is free and open to the public until March. All visitors must wear masks and social distance.

Two Turtle Doves, and a Mannequin Head

The votes, and electric bills, are in. Thanks to all of our businesses who participated in our Georgetown Holiday Window & Streatery Competition, and to everyone who selected their favorite display! Congratulations to Violet Salon & Spa and Martin's Tavern for winning the People's Choice Award (via in-person, QR-code voting) for Best Window and Best Streatery, respectively. A special panel of judges each selected a winner for Best In Show, with awards going to Amina Rubinacci, Tory Burch, and Olivia Macaron. Finally, the window that received the most Facebook likes was Pretty Chic. All of the windows can still be viewed on our website. Ten lucky winners who cast a QR-code vote were also selected at random to receive gift cards to Georgetown stores and restaurants. Thanks to all for bringing some much needed cheer and light to Georgetown this holiday season!

No Time Like the Present to Not Be Present

Why soak in the New Year when we can skip ahead to Valentine's Day? Feel the love at Paper Source's Valentine card making virtual workshop, January 13 from 8 pm - 9:30 pm. Get some cozy solo crafting in or get your friends together from afar to make one-of-a-kind cards. You can shop Paper Source's recommended supplies here and their optional, add-on supplies here. Order at least five business days before your workshop (basically today!) with ground shipping, or visit the Georgetown location at 3019 M St NW to pick up your supplies in-store. If Valentine's Day isn't your thing because you have a cold dead heart, check out their creative journaling workshop on January 17.

The Sky Is the Limit. Also a Budget.

Remember in high school when one of the kids running for class president would set forth their campaign vision of free vending machine snacks, and you were like wow - this is what it means to dream big. The Jelleff Recreation Center (3265 S St NW) is scheduled to undergo a major renovation, and while you may not get everything on your wish list, it never hurts to speak your piece and ask for what you want. Perkins Eastman has been hired to run a Feasibility Study to understand how the community uses the Center and what improvements you'd like to see from the renovation. Meeting rooms? A gym? Please click here to fill out the survey, which will take about 5 minutes to complete. The deadline is end-of-day January 18. Stay informed about the renovation on Facebook and Instagram.
