Judge Not, Except Our Holiday Competition

Celebrating the true meaning of the season: Cash prizes. Our Georgetown "Silver Linings" Holiday Window & Streatery Competition kicked off last Friday and runs through noon on December 31. Nearly 25 participating windows and streateries will be decorated throughout the month, and you can vote in person via QR code or online via Facebook for your favorite display. Vote in person and you'll have the chance to win $100, too! A competition map and link to our Facebook album are available on our Holiday Window Competition page. Plan your own self-guided stroll, or join DC by Foot for a Georgetown History & Holiday Lights 1.5-hour walking tour. Tours run daily at 6 pm, and are name-your-own-price with a $3 booking fee Wednesdays – Saturdays, and ticketed at $26 per person Sundays – Tuesdays.

Mistletoe, Party of 1

This may be as wild as we can all get this holiday season. REWILD, an artist-driven plant and flower studio, is taking over the patio of Georgetown Park's market house at 3276 M Street NW with a seasonal plant market. Stop by the holiday pop-up Fridays - Sundays from 11 am - 6 pm through Dec. 20 to shop wreaths, garland, poinsettias, and other holiday goods, and check out their workshop offerings, like a virtual seasonal hoop wreath class. In addition to the plant shop, East Market Lane is now home to a holiday art installation and photo opportunity curated by the creative firm Design Foundry. Kids can also drop off their Christmas lists at a special mailbox dedicated to letters for Santa. After visiting REWILD and snapping your art installation photo, grab a special holiday gift box at Olivia Macaron (including eggnog, cranberry and candy cane flavors, plus a kosher Hanukkah box!), then stop by Church Hall for their signature locally-distilled cocktails and bar menu. Reservations can be made for their outdoor beer garden here

Don't Be a Hero

Another story about my Dad? Great! So the year after the Jell-O incident from last week's BIDness, my Dad got my Mom a gift card to his favorite restaurant. Again, not a great look. Save yourself the trouble - and incoming side-eye - and use our seven new holiday gift guides to pick out presents your loved ones will truly appreciate. Curated with some of Georgetown’s most unique finds, these guides check off all the categories, with gifts for as little as $6. There are cookie tins (adorable gingerbread people with masks!), a private shopping experience, tie dye joggers and pullovers, small landscape prints for your home office, and much more. Check out all of our guides here!

On That "Couch to (Never Runs) 5K" Plan

The real unsung hero of 2020 is the thing we sat on for 15 hours a day. If you've put some serious mileage on your couch this year, it may be time for an upgrade. Head to Resource Furniture through the end of January for their limited-time floor model event. Wall beds, tables, seating and more are now available at exceptional pricing, as their Georgetown showroom transforms itself to make room for brand new products. Explore the catalog of available products and take advantage of these deep discounts on Resource Furniture's space-saving solutions.

Yourself On a Shelf

Calling all makers, plus people who one time accidentally mixed salsa and cream cheese and discovered something possibly delicious? Foxtrot, the Chicago-based market / café / coffee shop that's opening next year in Georgetown at 1267 Wisconsin Ave., is launching its Up and Comers Small Makers Awards for the chance to be featured on their shelves. This is their first initiative designed to find the next great brands in food, beverage, wellness, self-care and more, and aims to help small business owners gain exposure for their product and get it off the ground. Through January 10, business owners and makers are encouraged to apply for a chance to be sold in Foxtrot’s stores - including the Georgetown location. Judges include DC Chef Erik Bruner-Yang, the founder of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, and Top Chef judge Nilou Motamed. Winners will be announced in mid-February, and will receive a total of $100,000 in marketing support and cash rewards, plus placement on Foxtrot's shelves for at least three months.
