FALL STYLING SIP & SHOP

Reading Rainbow: Adult Edition

What Levar Burton did for childhood literacy, cocktails will do for the adults. The new, library-themed cocktail bar L'Annexe opened last week at 2917 M St NW. Drinks range from classic (frozen daiquiris and Old Fashioneds) to creative--featuring everything from hibiscus-infused potato vodka, to Fall spice-infused scotch, and sarsaparilla root-infused rye. Pair your libations with corn hummus, pork belly skewers, or shrimp aguachile, and admire all the leather-bound books.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Blog Words

In 1980, Susan Calloway left a food publishing career in Manhattan and moved to DC for her ex-husband’s government contract work. Georgetown felt a little ‘backward’ compared to New York, but her new life appeared to be picture-perfect. A few years later, a freak accident suddenly sent her life into a tailspin. In this week's byGeorge blog, the owner of Calloway Fine Art & Consulting (1643 Wisconsin Ave NW) shares how art became her salvation, the days when Barbara Streisand and Andre Agassi were visiting her booming Book Hill business, and how she's fighting an uphill battle against an ever-changing retail landscape.

Mother and Baby are Tired, But Doing Well

Yesterday, the Georgetown BID welcomed a redesigned website into the world. And now we're going to be those parents who show you pictures of said baby every two seconds. If you haven't checked it out yet, visit georgetowndc.com and start exploring! We have new Georgetown Guides, interactive maps, a much more robust search and events calendar, and so much more.

How Accountants Feel During Tax Season?

Working every weekend, pulled in a million directions, always camera-ready. It's an exhausting time of year to be a pumpkin. This week, they're once again the stars of the show. Join Dumbarton House (2715 Q St NW) tonight (Thursday, Oct. 17) from 5:30 pm - 8 pm for their annual Fall Festival to benefit the Red Cross. Wear your Halloween costume and enjoy live music, free food, candy, a photo booth, a cash bar, and more! Participate in their pumpkin carving contest for the chance to win a dinner for 12 from Geppetto Catering and a free Dumbarton House museum membership. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 to benefit the Red Cross. Keep the pumpkin party going on Saturday and join The Tavern (3333 M St NW) as they transform their sweetflow garden into a fall wonderland. Pick your favorite pumpkin or gourd to take home, try some pumpkin treats, and enjoy their spooky sweetflow special, featuring sweetflow blended with tumeric.

Where Do You Summer?
