Call Your Mother and Tell Her It's Happening

Oh, Bagelgate. What a time to be alive! After a few delays, Call Your Mother is expected to open in Georgetown by the end of this month. Everyone BE COOL! The 'Jew-ish' deli will serve toasted bagels and sell its bagel sandwiches inside the bright pink former flower shop at 3428 O St NW. Follow them on Instagram for the official opening announcement.

One Pulled Hamstring Away from Inner Peace

Patty Ivey didn’t find yoga, yoga found her. An avid marathon runner and biker, Patty was suddenly faced with a knee injury that would require surgery and possibly months of rehabilitation. She hated yoga, but reluctantly gave in to her doctor’s recommendation to take a class — willing to do whatever it took to get back to running. In this week's byGeorge blog, the former bakery owner and massage therapist shares the moment inside a hot yoga studio 18 years ago that changed her life forever, how her Georgetown studio, Down Dog Yoga, was at the forefront of a national culture shift that drew the likes of Russell Crowe, and why a 'brutal' three-year courtroom drama unveiled a greater purpose.

Add 'To-Do List' to To-Do List

Shake off the lingering trauma associated with every childhood diary your brother stole and read, and join Paper Source (3019 M St NW) for a Creative Journaling Workshop tonight (Jan. 23) from 6 pm - 8 pm to learn how to combine your planner, diary, to-do lists and sketchpad into one visually-inspiring, customized book. The instructor will teach you organizational techniques, along with fun ways to decorate your pages utilizing stamps, washi tape, creative layouts, hand lettering, and more. A journal will be provided with the class. If you can't make it tonight, check out their DIY Earrings Mini Workshop on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 1 pm - 3 pm. For just $5, you can drop in at any time during the two-hour window and create your own jewelry using colorful papers from around the world. The price includes one pair of earrings, but you can make as many pairs as you want for $5 each. For more Paper Source workshops, visit their website.

Pottery Industry Praying for Ghost Sequel

We're not saying you'll fall in love while Unchained Melody plays in the background — but we're not not saying it, either. Set yourself up for a real rom com moment — or just learn a fun new hobby — by signing up for a 10-week pottery class at Georgetown's Hinckley Pottery (3132 Blues Alley). Get your hands in clay, meet interesting people, and share the magic of turning mud into functional objects. Instruction is available for all skill levels, and the 2.5-hour class sessions are ongoing; just start whenever there is an opening on a day and time that works for you! If you're afraid of commitment, one-time 'try it' sessions are also available, as well as classes for kids. For more on owner Jill Hinckley, check out our byGeorge profile on the potter whose been playing with mud for over 50 years.

Talk of the (George)Town

We're a little biased but we agree with MSN, who named Georgetown's District Doughnut the best doughnuts in the city! Visit the Cady's Alley location for their winter menu, including gingerbread cookie, cannoli, and funfetti flavors — then head to every other state on their list for comparison's sake.

All in the name of research, right?
