EEPA 2018

The national competitions are well under way and the search for the national winners has begun. Do remember that each national deadline is different so be sure to check the EEPA 2018 factsheets here for information on submission deadlines and national coordinator contacts.

This year is also the chance for all green projects to show us their amazing work! The previously suspended ‘Supporting the development of green markets and resource efficiency’ category is back and open for submissions. This category is looking to recognise
initiatives that support SME access to green markets and help to improve their resource efficiency through, for example, green skills development and matchmaking, as well as funding.

SME Week: The Maltese story

The European SME Week is a pan-European campaign that promotes entrepreneurship in Europe, helps existing entrepreneurs find information on available support and encourages more people to set up their own businesses. Every year national coordinators across Europe work hard to prepare their national editions often focused on current themes with a variety of national events. Read on to find out about the 2017 Maltese edition and what to expect from Malta in 2018.

Malta SME Week provides insight into what the EU and national institutions offer to support SMEs. The 2017 events were spread over a month and featured conferences, seminars, training sessions, fairs
and info-sessions. These were held in collaboration with a number of stakeholders such as the Malta Employers Association (which received an EEPA 2017 Special Mention), the Foundation for Women Entrepreneurs, the National Council of Women, Business and Professional Women Malta, the Commerce Department, the General Retailers and Traders Union, the Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, Malta Enterprise and the Gozo Business Chamber.

Featured topics included the effect of current social problems on businesses, and second chances. The Week also hosted the second edition of Women Mean Business during which a panel of female entrepreneurs shared their experiences and best practices, followed by workshops on marketing and
internationalisation and access to finance.

Planning has begun for the 2018 Malta SME Week, which is likely to feature the third edition of Women Mean Business and have more activities focused on young female start-ups and students.
