Church should be more like a hospital and less like a theater.

Sunday morning I will be talking about being genuine and getting rid of the acting. How do we build a culture where it is safe to share our shortcomings? How do we move from having a gathering where everyone hides what is truly going on and puts on the best act possible? It's all part of the spiritual discipline of confession, which is not about a ritual and going to someone with special powers to forgive but about ministering to one another as a body and sharing life. Real life.

As we begin the Advent season, we focus on Hope. The simple, uncomplicated way that God entered our world gives us a beautiful picture of real, raw, uncluttered hope that changes everything.

I hope you have been applying what we have been learning. I know I've been doing some growing through it and can say my prayer life and perspective is improving.

Love you guys,
Scott Linscott
Lead Pastor

HAVE YOU GIVEN YOUR THANKSGIVING OFFERING YET? WE NEED YOU.
Let's say thank you to all who serve in the city where our church building stands. It's our tradition to hold off on adding to the number of Thanksgiving baskets and food collection in abundance during these two months to instead gather food supplies when the cupboards run bare in February and again in April and May. Instead, we like to express our thanks and give encouragement to those who work so hard for our city and often hear only the complaints.

Our special Thanksgiving Offering is used first to provide gift baskets that we assemble with fruits and snacks and a card expressing our thanks to more than 30 locations around our city: schools, public, works, public safety, etc. This year we are also including an additional gift in each of the school baskets to be used toward stocking the school food pantries. Also, we will be including a $400 gift in the police basket to support the Westbrook Recovery Liaison program once again.

We'll be assembling the baskets and delivering them on Wednesday morning December 11 at 9 AM. Join us if you can. It's a lot of fun and Reg and Deb of Downeast Florist teach us how to put together great looking baskets.

Use the special envelopes next to the offering plates for your gift or give online by choosing THANKSGIVING on the drop-down menu at www.easytithe.com/fbcwestbrook .
