Would that change anything? What if we truly believed what we say we believe?
Think for a second and consider this; what if God is really, truly God, Creator, all powerful, all knowing, able to move and do what he wants when he wants and yet, he has chosen to be good to us and love us? Would that impact our worship at all? Would it be the reason we worship? Would it be the reason we gather?
I am so focused on myself. I think we all are. What we like is most important. What we want is most important. Our comfort, our style, our preferences. My time is my time. My resources are my resources. My plans are my plans. But, what if God is really God and all-important me is but a tiny dot in the universe and just a blip in eternity?
I've been enjoying this spiritual disciplines series a lot. It has been like looking in the mirror that James talks about in the first chapter, except. I am focusing on not just walking away forgetting what I've discovered about myself. I've been committing myself to change some of my habits, my perspective and my daily walk. My relationship and intimacy with God is deepening and I like it. I hope you are finding the same.
Sunday morning, our teaching focus iswill be Worship. It's SO MUCH MORE than singing songs that make us tingle. It is a mindset, an understanding and an approach. There are different aspects of worship. How we live is worship and what we do when we gather with other believers is worship. We worship in song, in prayer, in position, in study, in giving, in serving ... Worship is broad and worship is specific. There's no way we will cover all of it on Sunday morning but my prayer is that we will each be nudged to consider worship more deeply for some independent study and reflection.
I hope you will be able to join us.
Love you guys,
OTHER STUFF * BASKETS! Wednesday. We'll be assembling the baskets and delivering them on Wednesday morning at 9 AM. Join us if you can. It's a lot of fun and Reg and Deb of Downeast Florist teach us how to put together great looking baskets.
If you haven't given your Thanksgiving offering yet, it's not too late. We are including monetary gifts in our baskets to address food insecurity in our schools and also again supporting the Westbrook opioid recovery program. You can designate it on the drop-down menu at www.easytithe.com/fbcwestbrook .
* CRAFT FAIR SATURDAY DEC 14
I hope you're planning to stop in to see the incredible craft fair that Afton Morton puts together each year. Last year we raised $2000 to support the Westbrook drug addiction program! This year the funds raised will benefit our work in Guatemala and our April 2020 trip. If you can bake something for our bake sale, email Afton at email@example.com
