I've been trying to develop more spiritual disciplines in my life to draw closer to God. Remember, God has already given us all and it's impossible for him to love us beyond the amazing love he already has for us. Developing spiritual disciplines is about us giving him more of ourselves, our focus, and our lives so that we grow closer to him. Though spiritual disciplines certainly benefit us, the benefits are not our motivation. We are learning to love the Blesser more than the blessings.

Have you been trying anything different? I have been trying to find an escape each day to get away from my normal distractions to be quiet, meditate, pray and study. I've been going for short hikes and trying hard to listen. It's been pretty cool.

I spotted this plant, Indian Pipe, on one of my walks and had never seen anything like it. It was only about 6 inches tall and very delicate. I actually laid on the ground to study it and photograph it. What does this have to do with listening to God?

Well, I was amazed by how delicate, detailed and intricate it looked. And then I was amazed that my Creator designed it and was awed by his creativity and imagination. Psalm 139 popped into my head, especially verse 14, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

I spent the rest of my time just feeling like I was being hugged by God as Psalm 139 reminded me that he stays with me, holds me, goes with me even when I place myself far from him. I walked out of the woods feeling like I had truly spent time hanging out with God.

Sunday, we will continue in our Spiritual Disciplines series by talking about the who, what, where, when, why and how of studying. I hope you're planning to join us.

Love you guys,
