There's a lot of opportunity for growth and change coming over the next few months. It's more than resolutions.
I'm taking a break from the Hallmark Christmas movies, sitting here in my red and black flannel shirt, looking like I could be the owner of a Christmas Tree farm, to work on plans for the coming week. I think it's going to be special.
Last Sunday we looked at the setting God used to introduce Jesus into our world and we saw that He clearly demonstrated that our worth is in Jesus alone. It's not in wealth, status or position. Our worth is not dependent on materialism or possessions. God demonstrated that He is not at all caught up in any of that by pouring Himself into human form and being born in lowly estate. Our value is entirely in the fact that we are loved by Him and created in His image. That's an amazing and totally oppositional message to the messages we are bombarded with day-in and day-out.
This week we're going to consider the setting we establish for living our lives. Are we opening God's greatest gift of Christmas and allowing it to shape us or are we setting it off to the side? If you want to do some advance prep, here's where we are headed.
I'm really hoping you'll join us for Christmas Sunday at 10 and then again for a very special Christmas Eve Service at 6PM Monday night. We will be hosting an old-fashioned Christmas Eve Service featuring carols to organ music, an organ prelude, and a family candlelight ending. And 100% of our special offering will go towards helping free people from addiction through the Westbrook Recovery Liaison Program. (We already have approximately $2000 raised through our awesome craft fair. Thanks Afton!)
I am loving the Christmas Season with my grandkids even though Calvin was not fooled for even a second at my Santa impersonation. Apparently I "smell of beef and cheese." If you are traveling to be with family for Christmas, my prayer is that you have a meaningful time of making memories together and celebrate with JOY at the birth of Jesus who changes everything!
