MEET
Celeste Cardona
Veterinary Assistant

Celeste was born and raised in Oxnard, California. Growing up she took care of dogs, cats, a rat and a hamster.

At one point, Celeste lived in Louisiana for eight years with her husband before moving back to Ventura County in 2005. While living in Louisiana she worked in an animal clinic and fell in love with the profession.

In her spare time, Celeste bakes with her four daughters and also enjoys going to the beach with her family. At home she has two dogs, India and Harper, and a cat, Ginger. We love Celeste’s positive outlook and enjoy having her as a part of our Ohana!

Cute Patient Alert!

We're starting something new in 2017! Our Ohana patients are so cute that their pet parents have been enjoying posting their photos to our Pet Gallery. We will be selecting one to grace our Talk Story each month as our "Cute Patient Alert" pet of the month!
Post your pet's photo here and you may just see him or her in a future issue of Talk Story!

Meet Dr. Amy Vlazny

Dr. Amy Vlazny is the newest member of our Ohana Urgent Care Team.

Hailing from Louisville, KY, Dr. Amy made her way to St. Louis, MO where she attained a B.A. in Biology from Washington University. Dr. Amy has also worked as a veterinary technician and spent over two years in Ecuador as a Peace Corps Volunteer.

In 2011, Dr. Amy graduated from Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts after which she moved to Ventura to complete an internship in small animal emergency medicine, internal medicine, and surgery. She then practiced veterinary emergency and general medicine in Thousand Oaks prior to joining our Ohana.

As a result of her many experiences Dr Amy has a special interest in outreach work to bring much-needed veterinary services to underserved communities.  Her professional interests are primarily in canine and feline emergency and internal medicine and soft tissue surgery.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Amy to our Ohana. Remember, if your pet has an emergent need, our urgent care doctors have open schedules in order to see Ohana patient emergency cases. Though appointments are not required it is important that you call in advance so that our Urgent Care Team can prepare for your arrival.

Rescue Spotlight

Buddy Nation was formed in Ventura to address the large population of homeless people and their beloved pets. These pets are often the only ones who love their people and give them affection, protection and companionship. They live in river bottoms, bushes, cars and trucks or wherever they can find shelter for the night. The economy has forced more and more people to lose their homes and end up on the streets. Many are there because they won’t give up their pets.

Buddy was the first street pet to be helped by Debra Reeves. After Buddy was hit by a motorcycle, Debra immediately jumped into action to help Buddy and his person get the assistance they needed, including life saving surgery for Buddy. Thus Buddy Nation was formed. The non-profit provides food and bedding for street pets as well as getting the pets to veterinarians for medical treatment. Buddy Nation also works with other animal organizations to provide spays and neuters, vaccinations, micro chipping, licenses, food, leashes, harnesses, toys and treats. Learn more about how you can help Buddy Nation.

Emergency Veterinary Care is now open

Board certified emergency and critical care specialists Dr. Sarah Gray and Dr. Nancy Scott have opened Emergency Veterinary Care, a small animal emergency practice open seven days a week until midnight. Dr. Gray and Dr. Scott are well respected criticalists in our community and have worked together locally saving pets lives for more than a decade. They bring a combined 20+ years of specialty veterinary experience to this newly established emergency practice.

Currently, Emergency Veterinary Care is operating out of Ohana Pet Hospital while they develop the perfect location to care for your pets' urgent care needs. We know this bit of support we are giving to Emergency Veterinary Care now will ultimately help our patients and our entire community of pets through out the region. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Please let Natalie, our Client Relations Manager, or Dr. Jan, our Medical Director, know if you are having any concerns with this effort.
