Assistance for bushfire affected families

While we welcome the New Year and new beginnings, we are very conscious of the devastation caused to many as a result of the savage fires that have raged across our country. As a firm with its origins in Bourke over a century ago, many of our clients and their families live in fire and drought affected areas.

It seems that nobody has been unaffected by the magnitude of these disastrous events, and the extent of loss suffered would still be incomprehensible for many. However, as we have seen again and again within our communities, in the midst of so much tragedy there are always stories of courage, kindness and generosity and we trust that these acts of humanity will in some way help those in need.

At a federal level, the National Bushfire Recovery Agency has been established to coordinate a national response to assist in rebuilding communities and prioritising funding across various key areas affected by the recent bushfires.

Disaster Recovery Payments and Disaster Recovery Allowances for eligible persons may also be available. For more information visit www.disasterassist.gov.au.

If your property is mortgaged and / or if you are struggling with debts as a result of the fires, you can contact your lender to request financial hardship assistance.

If you are dealing with damage or destruction to property, our article titled 'Read this when making an insurance claim' provides general guidance.

We are certainly happy to assist any fire or drought affected families with special rates for legal work.

We wish you all a happy and healthy 2020 and offer positive thoughts, moving forward, to those dealing with the adversity and impact of the bushfires.
