As you may know, oftentimes during a clergy leadership transition the
spouse of the priest also leaves the congregation. This is typical and
can even be an encouraged practice as a clergy spouse’s ongoing presence
may make it harder for the congregation to transition to the next priest’s leadership.
Keeping this in mind, in conversation with Lyle SmithGraybeal, our parishioner and St. Brigit youth group facilitator, it has been decided that Lyle will continue on as a St. Brigit parishioner and in spending time with the youth as we await an interim minister. Also that Lyle will take a kind of sabbatical this summer ( July and August ) for some rest and renewal. Between now and then, Lyle will work with the youth parents
and other adults on youth summer programming, which can be a combination of Sunday morning and other activities, depending upon what the adults would like to facilitate.
Come September, Lyle would like to return to congregational participation and the youth group knowing that it is ultimately up to the interim clergy to decide whether Lyle’s ongoing participation will be helpful for the health of the congregation. Until that time, his leadership and participation as both a parishioner and leader of the youth group are welcomed at St. Brigit.
