INN-TERNATIONAL

Forthcoming Ministry Trips

None planned owing to personal health of the Director.  Thankfully he is 95% restored to full health, but remains under observation with both oncology and urology departments at the local hospital and is not able to travel long distances as yet.

For they are traveling for the Lord, and they accept nothing from people who are not believers. So we ourselves should support them so that we can be their partners as they teach the truth.   3 John 1.7-8

India

We congratulate Revd Dr Suresh Vemulapalli and all of India Village Ministries on their 15th Anniversary.  It has been a privilege and pleasure to have partnered with them since 2002. We continue to relate, fellowship, and support them, and trust God that we can undertake another Ministry Trip together sometime in the future.

Obang Jimmy Erem is the Senior Pastor of Three Power of Jesus Around the World Churches – Kigumba, Kiryandongo and Bweyale Churches. We planted the Kigumba and Kiryandongo churches after holding crusades in the late 1990s.  Bweyale is a plant from them.  For ministers to be recognised for official functions such as Weddings they must now have formal qualifications, so we are financing Jimmy to train for a Diploma in Theology in Kampala.  In order to engage on this two and a half year course Jimmy has resigned his Secondary School teaching post which has been his main means of income.  We will provide for him also in this respect as best we can.  Please help us if you can.

Jimmy co-ordinates the Kigumba Elders Fellowship and masterminded our Crusade and Leaders Conference in January 2015.  People are regularly still coming to faith in that Muslim-dominated area, which is also known as the centre for witchcraft in Uganda. Jimmy is married with two children.

INN-Medway
The Winter Shelter served an average of 11 homeless people every night for three months and has closed now until later this year.  They were provided with food, clothes, a bed, advice and help according to their respective needs.

We are pleased to announce that our Director, Rev Peter
Marchand, has been appointed Chaplain to the Mayor of
Medway for this coming year.  We wish him well in this new role.  He continues as Chairman of Churches Together in Medway.

Relevant  Question

Should church and state mix?

Peter replies with relevant answer

I have been in full-time Christian leadership now for 30 years. The truth is that for the majority of those years my view was, “Let Caesar take care of the affairs of Caesar, and I’ll concentrate on taking care of the affairs of God.”  My focus, concentration, time and energy was directed to “tending the lambs, shepherding the sheep and tending the sheep.” (John 21) But God has a habit of tipping us out of our comfort zones, theologically particularly.  I remember being a missionary in Cairo, Egypt and longing for Christian fellowship. Having prayed earnestly about this God put me together with an American Catholic monk!  The same monk after a while said, “Peter, can we pray together?”  “Help,” I thought, “I don’t know how to pray with a Catholic monk!” But we met and we fellowshipped together, and shared together and we talked to God together.  And that man and I are still friends and still in contact with each other 32 years later.

In the same way, it was not until local affairs in 2013 resulted in my being approached to stage a hustings for a local by-election.  The man who asked me to do it was thinking of going into local politics.  I encouraged him, and he did.  He was elected a Councillor and a year later was elected Mayor of the city of Medway where I live.  That resulted in a phone call to me saying, “Would you be my Chaplain?”  Once again, “Help, it’s not my comfort zone, I don’t mix with politicians, and councillors.”  But as I weighed it I realised that God was saying to me that now was the time for me to begin to mix with all the other people that He had raised up and was using for the welfare of the city,  and to be salt and light in the political arena. So, should the church mix with the state?  Yes, but not to compromise the principles of the Kingdom of God - rather to uphold them in the place where decisions on earth are made.
