SEPTEMBER 2021

A warm welcome to our newest member: the Scottish Rural & Islands Transport Community (SRITC)

Launched in 2017, SRITC supports transport innovation across Scottish rural and island communities, connecting them with each other and with a vibrant international network. It runs monthly BYOC (Bring your own cake) Cafes and an annual Gathering. SRITC was also one of the curators of the 2021 Scottish Rural Parliament and delivered an excellent session on Transport.

We are celebrating SRITC becoming a Community Interest Company and the many doors this will open - watch this space! In the meantime, information about this year's FREE Gathering can be found below.
You can register FREE for the Gathering here:
Scottish Rural Action has teamed up with fifty other organisations to support Climate Scotland's 10,000 Voices Campaign.

Our ambition is to help gather 10,000 voices from the people of Scotland. We’ll take them to COP26 to send our leaders a message that we want strong and meaningful commitments to protect the things we love, and to make a better future for us all.

Scottish Rural Parliament - testing approaches to regional engagement in East and Midlothian

To have impact, the Scottish Rural Parliament must be inclusive of all rural and island communities of place and of interest. So far, however, Midlothian and East Lothian have been amongst a number of largely rural areas which are underrepresented in the Scottish Rural Parliamentary process.

This is all about to change!

An exciting new project delivered by the Tyne Esk LEADER Local Action Group (LAG) with funding from the Scottish Government will test new approaches to improving engagement between East and Midlothian communities and the Scottish Rural Parliament. We are looking forward to working with the Tyne Esk LAG to make this project a success. The learning it generates will have wide application and will shape the 2023 Scottish Rural Parliament process.

Look out for updates through this newsletter and our social media. If you would like to discuss the project, please do get in touch with Tyne Esk LEADER.

Thank you Esme!

An enormous thank you to Esme Leitch, our Communications and Engagement Officer who left Scottish Rural Action this September to continue her counselling studies. We wish her the best in her very exciting future!
