The South East Europe City Platform

The East European area did not, to date, present a coordinated platform for assisting the development of urban strategies for small and medium sized towns. The SEE City Platform, a result of the European STATUS Project coordinated by URBASOFIA as Content Management, aims at filling this gap. The Platform provides cities and regions alike with the successful methodologies already tested, results, practices and emerging city networks (both local and inter-communal) which have surfaced from the STATUS experience, within a virtual platform through which to further develop innovative and smart solutions for the SEE cities of the future.

Our aim is to support the wider dissemination of the tools which have assisted partner cities in co-creating strategies and project portfolios for the 2014-2020 Programming Period, but also at setting up the instruments for the strategies’ implementation, continuation and spin-off (Urban Task Forces, Urban Centers).
If you would like to join the SEE City Platform as a city, region or affiliate and get involved in the participative urban development process we have set up, we encourage you to subscribe with the platform!

STATUS Book

The Status Project Book full version is now online! "Strategic Territorial Agendas for Small and Middle-sized Towns and Urban Systems" is a scientific compendium edited by Dr. Pietro Elisei, director of URBASOFIA, comprising of top-quality international research content generated through STATUS - a joint effort of all experts from URBASOFIA, Eurodite, ISOCARP, IFHP, INU, RUR, UIRS, Fondazione Graphitech and from the participating cities and regions (Abruzzo, Alba Iulia, Baia Mare, Balti, Drama, Foggia, Herceg Novi, Kavala, Satu Mare and Temerin). The book is freely available here

Alba Iulia Investment Folder 2030

The Alba Iulia Investment Folder has been a joint effort of URBASOFIA and EURODITE companies for Alba Iulia as a client. The book shares the local experience of the STATUS project, together with the city's strategy for 2030, funding priorities, portfolio of flagship projects and opportunities for local, regional, national and European partnership.

SUNSHINE Service Platform is now online

SUNSHINE (Smart UrbaN ServIces for Higher eNergy Efficiency) delivers innovative digital services for automatic large-scale assessment of building energy behavior, optimization of energy consumption of heating/cooling systems and interoperable control of public illumination systems. The 8 project pilots have just started, and URBASOFIA is in charge of communication, training and the socio-economic impact assessment - so keep close for more information on how to achieve your 2030 energy targets and subscribe for training

We are also holding an
International Workshop called SUNSHINE: challenges and innovative solutions for energy efficiency within the NIRD URBAN-INCERC anniversary conference SPUAC on May 14, 2015, where we aim to promote both the project services as well as:
  • Innovative ideas which are likely to guide research in the near future;
  • Initiatives, projects and policies of cities and planning departments which are meant to improve living conditions in European cities;
  • Smart technology solutions, applications and products which have the potential to change the way society and business work.

YPLAN - Young Placemakers Initative to start 1 May 2015

The Swiss-Romanian Grants YPLAN Project, our collaboration with URBAN2020, CEP and IRAP HSR, will facilitate the transition towards sustainable participatory planning and civil empowerment in Romania through innovative applied public space co-design and best practice transfer of Swiss youth involvement experience. We will work with 12 Bucharest high-schools and select a group of 30 young students with which to design and implement 4 public space renewal projects in the city.

We will also have a liaising activity in June, hosting a Study Visit in Bucharest for the IRAP HSR Students. More details coming soon!

SMART CITIES: Beyond buzzwords and preconceptions

SCITA CIVITA is a newly-founded Romanian-Italian NGO in ICT and Town Planning, aggregating the very best in terms of smart cities, industries, services and technologies in Romania. We aim to have a professional look on issues related to contemporary phenomena in town planning and understand what the concrete priorities in cities and metropolises are.

We are looking for those themes which really can advance the economy of cities thanks to a creative and constructive use of open data, crowdsourced information, innovative location based services and so on. The SCITA CIVITA International Launch Seminar will take place on May 18th 2015, in our bureau in Brussels (BELO, Avenue d'Auderghem 63).
