Nick Krasity of Team Detroit/Macomb attended Intermediate Trauma Training in Naples and summarizes some of the important takeaways below:
DEX = Trauma: The DEX/Trauma bucket is projected to surpass Shoulder within two years and hit $1 billion within five years. We are now considered trauma reps.
The largest current "trauma" opportunity is Clavicle: Clavicle will be part of our bucket going forward. Clavicle presents an important opportunity for us to build relationships with the majority of our physicians who take trauma call. Now is the time to start covering these cases, since Arthrex plans to roll out a line of heavy trauma products within 2-3 years. This is an opportunity to gain experience away from foot/ankle and hand/wrist in order to work with doctors who actually take trauma call. If we build these relationships now, they can lead to ArthroFX and distal tibia cases. Optimizing these relationships now will create an easier transition when Arthrex releases more innovative trauma products in the future.
Equally as important and as relevant as our clavicle opportunity, Fibertape Cerclage will be a very important product that every surgeon, especially trauma-related, should know about.
Currently in our "trauma" bag: Besides our clavicle set and Fibertape Cerclage, ArthroFX and our distal tibia system will be crucial in building these relationships.
Trauma call-schedules and expectations: I would strongly recommend building relationships now with anyone who does fracture management in your territory who we have the ability to cover, Primarily clavicle, as these are typically docs who take trauma call.
