Dr. Tariq Awan, DO

Dr. Tariq Awan, DO is a sports medicine specialist in Troy, MI and has been practicing for 16 years. He graduated from Chicago College Of Osteopathic Medicine / Midwestern University in 2003 and specializes in sports medicine.

Despite the eight inches of snow that fell that evening, our key targets attend the course. These were doctors that have some experience with Angel PRP but haven’t quite taken the reins to make PRP and BMC a bigger part of their practice.

The patient's having to pay cash (particularly with BMC) and building confidence in the bone marrow aspirate technique are common obstacles to these products/techniques taking off successfully. The instructors addressed these concerns and spent time in the lab practicing the bone marrow aspiration techniques with and without ultrasound.

Following the course, the feedback received from Dr. Donaldson, Dr. Biddinger, Dr. Swift, and Dr. Samani was positive, and they have a new focus on what it takes to make PRP/BMC a larger part of their practice.

Foot and Ankle Biologics Dinner with Guest Speaker Dr. Justin Fleming

Pinnacle held a Foot and Ankle Biologics Dinner on November 11th at Bacco Ristorante in Southfield. Discussion was focused on Angel BMC/PRP, ArthroCell, AlloSync Pure, and ArthroCell.

The doctors had time to ask about their challenging cases, and Dr. Fleming offered great counsel as well as tying in the biologics that need to be included in pre-operative planning.
  • The biggest takeaways from the doctors we spoke with following the course were:
  1. BMC for all fusions; don't wait for the non-union,
  2. In older patients with multiple comorbidities, ArthroCell is a must.
  3. When it comes to soft-tissue, there was a consensus that Amnion is underutilized, particularly for peroneal tendon repairs.
  4. Always have ArthroFlex in the room during Achilles ruptures to increase the overall strength of  the repair.
As a result of the dinner, Pinnacle received an Angel BMC and Dynamite MAX out of a TMT non-union revision that went very well.
