Texas House Passes a Conservative Budget
The Texas House successfully passed a balanced budget, after almost 12 hours of floor debate. Many important issues were included in the budget discussion, such as fully funded teacher retirement, increased funding for healthcare initiatives, as well as plans to how our state can meet certain financial goals in order to maintain additional state law enforcement operations at the Texas border.  I appreciate the efforts made by my colleagues to pass a conservative budget that not only addresses important issues for all Texans, but also ensures spending levels remain below population growth plus inflation.
Monument Protection Bill
On April 12th, I presented House Bill 3584 in the House Committee on Culture, Recreation and Tourism. This legislation ensures that the Texas Historical Commission (THC) markers are better protected by clarifying the penalties for altering, removing, relocating, covering, obscuring, concealing or interfering with a THC marker, medallion or monument. It would also allow the Attorney General of Texas to file suit in district court to seek remedy if a marker, medallion or monument is violated or damaged.

H.B. 3584 is a Republican Party of Texas platform priority bill, and I'm proud to author this bill to further protect our historic Texas monuments.
Last Week in the Texas House
Texans support the Second Amendment and have a long tradition of protecting the constitutional rights granted to all Americans. Last week, I voted to support H.B. 2622 to make Texas a Second Amendment Sanctuary State and to protect the rights of Texans to defend themselves.
Teacher Appreciation Week
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week! I am thankful for all the teachers who have stepped up during the pandemic to ensure our children continue to learn and have fun under all circumstances. To all those working hard to educate the next generation of Texans, we extend a BIG THANK YOU!
Republican Andrew Murr is proud to represent Bandera, Crockett, Edwards, Kerr, Kimble, Llano, Mason, Medina, Menard, Real, Schleicher and Sutton Counties in the Texas House of Representatives.
