Trail Towns Tourism Community Incentive Award Winners Announced

Kawartha Lakes Tourism is pleased to share the announcement of the winning entries of the Kawarthas Northumberland regional tourism Trail Towns Workshop 2017 Community Incentive Award submissions. 

Congratulations to both Impact 32 in Bobcaygeon and Friends of Lock 34 in Fenelon Falls for their winning entries!  We are excited to work with both of these dedicated community groups on these tourism initiatives.

Maximum Signs, making sure you know what’s coming!

In an unassuming building on Sandbourne Drive in Pontypool you’ll find Ron Haslam and his company Maximum Signs. Ron sits in a large office adorned with sports memorabilia and some toys for a frequent visitor, his granddaughter.

Eastern Ontario Wardens' Caucus Sets 2017 Priorities

Three sets of key priorities were established for the Caucus in the coming year:
  1. Improving our Infrastructure & Connectivity
  2. Growing our Regional Economy
  3. Reducing Operational Costs
“The EOWC will also continue working with its partners in the Eastern Ontario Mayors’ Caucus and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario to advocate for legislative solutions that will reduce operational costs for municipalities. By working to alleviate the financial burden on the municipal sector, the EOWC is working to improve the conditions for growth and economic development in our area,” noted Mayor Andy Letham, City of Kawartha Lakes.

Commercial Guidelines for Clear Bag Program

To keep in line with the City of Kawartha Lakes’ Integrated Waste Management Strategy, as of January 1st the City launched Clear Waste Bag Collection. This program will help divert recyclables from local landfill sites to preserve valuable landfill space.

Commercial Clear Bag Waste Collection Guidelines have been developed to help support local businesses in understanding the requirements and how the program affects them.

Funding and Awards
Canada Summer Jobs Application Deadline Extended

There is a few days left for employers to apply for summer help through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Those interested in applying now have until February 3, 2017 to submit their applications.

Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.

Applications are open for the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP)
Application Deadline: February 14th, 2017 at 12:00pm
Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation (KLCFDC) is now accepting applications for EODP in the Business Development and Community Innovation streams. Business Development initiatives will lead to the growth of new and existing businesses and to job creation. Community Innovation projects enable community-led economic development that will enhance and diversify the innovative and economic capacity of the local and potentially regional economy and create employment.

Renewed Rural Economic Development (RED) Program Now Open for Applications

Application Intake Dates:
January 30, 2017 (12:00 pm) to March 31, 2017 (5:00 pm)
July 31, 2017 (9:00 am) to September 29, 2017 (5:00 pm)

Ontario’s renewed Rural Economic Development program is provide funding to help remove barriers to community economic development.

With the support of the program, rural communities are better positioned to attract investment, create jobs, enhance economic growth and make everyday life easier for rural Ontarians.

RTO8 Partnership Allocation Program

Attention Tourism Partners:  now is the time to start thinking about proposals for partnership support for your 2017/2018 tourism initiatives.  The RTO8 Kawarthas Northumberland Partnership Allocation Program for the 2017/2018 year will open for applications as of April 1st.  Don’t wait till the last minute to apply for partnership support and start your planning now.

ALUS Information Session – Peterborough Region

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is bringing the Alternative Land Use Services (ALUS) program to the Peterborough region. ALUS is a farmer-driven, non-government program designed to recognize and compensate farmers for the implementation of stewardship projects that protect waterways, restore habitat, and other initiatives that benefit the ecosystem.

Snowshoe Kawartha - Snow Day

On Sunday Feb. 5th, Fenelon Falls will host the Snowshoe Kawartha Snow Day and Snowshoe Races.  The full day of events celebrating winter games in Fenelon Falls will include a historical Champlain walk, curling, ice fishing and the Snowshoe Kawartha inaugural snowshoe race. The race is the first stop in the Ontario Cup Snowshoe Racing Series sanctioned by Snowshoe Canada.

Farm Finance Workshop – Putting it all Together for Profit
Friday, February 24th from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Little Britain Community Centre, Arena Road, Little Britain

This workshop is to provide farmers tools to assist with financing on the farm. Several institutions, agencies and practitioners will present on various topics and programs including grants and loans, insurance and other finance programs, farm tax tips, and financial planning for succession.

Business for the Arts has announced they are bringing the artsVest program back to Kawartha Lakes in 2017. ArtsVest works directly with small to mid-sized arts organizations, equipping them with in-depth training, and toold to build sustainable partnerships between arts and businesses and to spark sponsorship opportunities. Participants can apply for matching grants - for every one dollar raised in sponsorship, Business for the Arts will match it - doubling their sponsorship opportunity.
