March 2017

Chair's Message - March 2017

In a little over a week March will be here, what happened to the first two months of 2017? February brought us some beautiful weather and a great Chamber Luncheon. The February Membership Luncheon was held at Catering to You Banquet Center, and if you weren’t able to make it you missed out on some really good food, thanks Jon, and a motivational presentation from our guest speaker Alfred Long with Renewed Mind Life Coaching. Our Lunch sponsors, Catholic Family Services & Boy Scouts of Greater St. Louis, shared information with us on their community involvement and the services that they provide. We also welcomed our newest members, Dodge Mayflower Moving & Storage and Total Access Urgent Care.  Lastly, we recognized three of our outgoing board members Rick Dorsey, Melissa Rakers, and Dhari Pearson. They have finished their three-year term serving on your Chamber Board of Directors and I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication while on the board. We also had a Business After Hours at Cannoli’s. I would like to thank Tom Freesmeier and his staff for hosting. Everyone enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.

I mention these events because as I said earlier, if you don’t attend these events you’re missing out on the chance of meeting fellow North County business owners like yourself, priceless networking opportunities, and some of the best food North county has to offer. If you haven’t hosted a Business After Hours think about it. It is a great way to showcase your business and let everyone experience what it is that you do. So next month in March attend the luncheon, Wednesday, March 15th at Glen Echo Country Club, put it on your calendar and give it a try. Also add the March Business after Hours for Thursday, March 9th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Johnny Londoff Chevrolet.  As they say “try it you’ll like it."

Thought for the month:

“Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.”
Unknown.

Sincerely,
Mike Moehlenkamp

From the President...

Time seems to be flying…can’t believe we are into March already.  Soon birds will be chirping, flowers will be blooming and we will spring forward on March 12th. With that being said, the Chamber office is springing into action with all the activities we have going on. We have our Blues Game Night Out on April 4th, Music Trivia on April 29th, Valley of Flowers food booth on May 5th-6th and the parade on May 7th, and a Cardinal Game Night on May 19th.  Our committees are already planning our Golf Tournament on June 2nd, Duck Races on July 29th, Scholarship Bowl on August 3rd, Women’s Empowerment Seminar on October 13th, Scavenger Hunt on October 21st, and Nite of Stars on December 1st….Whew!!! We encourage everyone to become involved in one way or another…join a committee, help sponsor an event or just attend events.  Building relationships are key to networking, therefore the more you are involved the more you will receive out of the Chamber. We think of the Chamber as one big family and we hope you do too.

Now I need to ask for a favor… if every one of you could send just 1 membership referral to our office imagine how we could grow! Anyone in sales knows a warm lead is far better than a cold lead. For every referral you send our way we will give a shout out to you and your business on our Facebook Page and for every referral that becomes a member you will receive a free membership luncheon. We will also be keeping a tally for the most referrals sent in to us and at the end of the year we will have a surprise in store for you. Ready, set, GO!!!

The office is in the process of calling all of our members to update our membership directory. Please make sure you have done this. You also have the opportunity to run an ad in our directory too. The Chamber’s directory is on our website and is interactive with any ad you run, if clicked on, it will go directly to your website.  Please take advantage of this opportunity to advertise.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

“When Irish eyes are smiling, sure 'tis like a morn in spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter you can hear the angels sing,
When Irish hearts are happy all the world seems bright and gay,
And when Irish eyes are smiling, sure, they steal your heart away.”

~Chauncey Olcott and George Graff, Jr. (lyrics), Ernest R. Ball (music)
