Ontario Environment Network Updates
Message from the President :

Join the OEN and help us Advocate for the Environment.
The OEN will hold it’s Annual General Meeting on November 25, via Zoom. Members with voting privileges - organizations with paid fees - receive the link to the meeting registration as well as the agenda and supporting documents.
If you are part of an organization that is not a member, this may be a good time to consider joining the OEN, for two over-arching reasons.
First, both environmental protection and public consultation in Ontario are being reduced. While the government has clearly stated a desire to reduce what is sees as duplication and red tape caused by environmental regulation, all of our sister organizations in the province perceive that they have gone too far, and continue to do so with recent initiatives to amend environmental assessment, the role of conservation authorities, increases in Minister’s Zoning Orders, and omnibus legislation and closure that curtails public consultation.
At this time, we need to strengthen the linkages between and the collective voice of the members of our network.
That brings me to the second, complementary reason to join the OEN at this time. The Board is presenting a number of important initiatives on November 25. The boring stuff is that we are proposing an updated bylaw. A bit more exciting is that we are suggesting both a new member category for Diversity Members, at a reduced fee, and clarifying the nature of and abolishing fees for subscribers, who do not have voting rights.
Most importantly, the Board is recommending that the OEN re-commit to advocacy. For complex historical reasons, the OEN had channelled advocacy to our caucuses while refraining as an organization from taking positions on any issues. We are proposing a new direction.
Facing a climate crisis, the sixth mass extinction, emerging threats from new chemicals, and cuts to environmental protection & public consultation, we believe that the OEN needs to step up and that the best way to serve our members and grow our profile in Ontario is to re-engage in responsible advocacy.
You can join the OEN as a voting organization now by visiting All other categories of being a member or subscriber will be frozen until after November 25, to avoid having new supporters stranded in old categories or maybe having to return fees, but we will update you after the meeting.
We hope to maintain your on-going support,
Andrew McCammon
