1. Actions and Upcoming events
|
|
|
- 17-22 March: World Water Day. Awareness for plastic pollution and microplastics around world water day
- After the Kick-off of 100 years Rotary in the Netherlands in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam, all 7 districts in The Netherlands will organize an estafette during a weekend in 2023, biking from one club to the other over 550 kilometers and organizing awareness and service actions along the way. EndPlasticSoup was well represented in the stadium and the evening show in the International Theater Amsterdam
- 22 April: Earth Day. Rotary Cub Lake Havasu in Arizona kicks off World Earth Day already on 25th March
- 3 June: Our 6th worldwide EndPlasticSoup Action Day!

- Good news: Our first Global Grant project in Europe (picture ⬆︎) has been approved! We congratulate the host club RC Bijeljina in Bosnia-Herzegovina and their international partner RC Wiesbaden-Rheingau.The project is about our three pillars: action, awareness and alliances. Read more >
- We welcome our new Ambassador Club Social Impact Network, D9685, Sydney Australia. The clubs already presented EndPlasticSoup to over 50 clubs and district meetings in the past months. More and more Rotary and Rotaract Clubs support the EndPlasticSoup initiative in 46 countries now with 5 clubs considering to become a new Ambassador for EndPlasticSoup in their district.
- Kings Medal of Merit awarded to Kenneth Bruvik. Kenneth Bruvik, past member of Sotra Rotary Club, our first Ambassador Club, has been awarded a very well deserved Kings Medal of Merit (Norway). In particular he is regarded as Norways frontrunner in the fight against plastic waste in the ocean, and was instrumental in the establishment of a plastic waste project in Sotra Rotary in 2017. Kenneth was and is a great inspiration for EndPlasticSoup. Read more >

3. Ambassador Clubs – People of Action
|
|
|
- Incredible fourth cleanup of the El Río Grande/El Río Bravo river:
500 volunteers, 6 Rotary Clubs from Mexico, 2 Rotary Clubs from the USA, and 240 high school students, collected more than 6 tons of garbage and plastic near Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico on February 12, 2023. It had to be postponed for security reasons towards the volunteers from last year, due to the large number of migrants who were staying in the different cities along the Rio Bravo. Read more >
- Many Supporter and Ambassador Clubs create awareness in their communities using the EndPlasticSoup and Enviroment District Challenges, and/or organize cleanups. See some examples of RC Miami, D6990, Florida USA with the Environmental cleanup at Tropical Audubon Society in Miami and RC Ingeniero Maschwiz, D4895 in Argentina, building an ECO barrier. - Rotary Club Wageningen (Netherlands) and Rotary Club Wipperfürth Lindlar/Romerike Berge (Germany), both Ambassador Clubs for EndPlasticSoup have developed a new wonderful EndPlasticSoup Jigsaw puzzle to raise funds and do something about the enormous plastic pollution! Read more >
- Two students, Elmo Swenne and Pablo Bourcelet, supported by our Ambassador clubs Rotary Club Rotary Zagorje Kum, Slovenia and RC Roma Nord-Est, and several other Rotary Clubs, have visited the Balkan countries with their Van to pay attention to the Plastic Pollution and Rotary EndPlasticSoup. Their Flow project is for raising awareness and take water samples for data collection. Read more >
- Ambassador Club RC Marbella supports the La Espana Azul expedition that investigates plastic around Spanish coasts. The expedition is led by famous adventurer Nacho Dean and aims at raising awareness of marine plastic waste and promoting care for marine habitats. Read more >

4. Young Ambassadors in action

- Melati Wijsen at the Big Improvement Day in The Hague. (see picture⬆︎)
At the Big Improvement Day in The Hague in January, we spoke with our Young Ambassador Melati Wijsen (22) from Bali. Melati is a big change maker, on her island and in the rest of Indonesia and the world. As founder of Bye Bye Plastic Bags and now with her new initiative Youthtopia, she started the project 1 million Eyes & Ears to educate 1 million young people in Indonesia to become change makers. - Young Ambassador Ellyanne Wanjiku in Zimbabwe.
Ellyanne Wanjiku visited Zimbabwe in December and early January to create EndPlasticSoup awareness at schools, in a church and meeting government officials. Read more >
- “Sachet-Free School Canteen” by Aeshnina Azzahra Aqilani (Nina). Our Young Ambassador Aeshnina Azzahra Aqilani (Nina) wants to create 1,000 school canteens in Indonesia that do not use sachets (with candees …) anymore. Read more > and watch on Youtube ⬇︎
