The December Newsletter
The PMA Transitional Board met for the second time on 17th December 2015 and our focus was on how we build our membership and manage the PMA going forward. There were many ideas, some of which are at an early stage, but we wanted to share with you the highlights.
Firstly, we are delighted to inform you that Sir Michael Gibbons (author of the Gibbons Review 2007) has agreed to be the Patron of the PMA. Sir Michael is a huge supporter of mediation and continues to work with the Government influencing and shaping policy in many areas.
We looked at the structure of the PMA and we are considering making the PMA into a charitable organisation; we are currently seeking professional advice as to the best options for us. In our discussions we also considered an option for the PMA to provide a pro-bono mediation service for small charities; this could lead to mediation opportunities for PMA members who are keen to use their skills but find it difficult to find opportunities to mediate while also promoting mediation across the charity sector more generally.
We spent time thinking through what we can offer PMA members, particularly those of you who have supported the PMA for some time. Members will be contacted in the New Year with an opportunity to renew their membership for 2 years, but at the price for a single year, and we will set out in more detail the benefits that we see membership of the PMA offering you, including: access to mediation case law, blogs and research; a place at the 2016 PMA Conference and Awards; discounted CPD; a proactive website and opportunities for mediation supervision.
We want to hear from you, as the PMA members, about what you want for and from the PMA as we move forward. You are invited to complete a short questionnaire to help us understand what you want and to give you an opportunity to pass on your ideas to us.
We wish you a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
All the best,
The PMA Board
