Welcome to the Summer 2015 Newsletter of Sheltering Hands. As you can see, we have a redesigned newsletter format and a new logo. We also launched our new website this past month. Please check it out at Our old website-, will go dark this month. We know you will love our new and improved website. It is designed to work better with mobile devices, so all of you who use your cell phones to stay connected will have an easier experience at our site. In addition, we have added helpful features such as Google maps that will give you directions and street level pictures of locations we will be at.

These past few months have been very busy as we work to open our brand new surgical center and headquarters on Highway 27, a few miles west of I-75. Through the generous bequest of local attorney and cat lover Steve Stremmel, we were able to purchase a vacant veterinary clinic. We have made needed renovations and upgrades to the buildings on the property. There is the surgical center that will house our TNR/Community Cats program, as well as our voucher program services. With greatly expanded space, we were able to add additional operating tables, a dental area and roomy, comfortable spaces to intake, treat and monitor our cats. Coco's House, named for one of Steve's beloved cats, will house our gift shop and a few very special cats awaiting their forever homes. Finally, the Tuxe center, named for another of Steve's special fur kids, will be used for training and as a resource center. Wow, what a difference a year makes!

Mark your calendars. We invite you to the Grand Opening of our new surgical center and headquarters on Saturday, September 26th from 9-4. We will have guided tours, refreshments, volunteer signups, Sheltering Hands merchandise and, of course, some wonderful cats looking  for their forever homes. We hope to see you then. More information will be sent out closer to the date.

Annual Meeting- Friday, August 21st- 5:00pm at the Sheriff's substation on State Road 200.
All are invited and welcome. Come and learn about all that has happened at Sheltering Hands in the past year. We will have light refreshments and lots of information. After the Annual Member Meeting, we will hold our regular Board meeting, which you are welcome to stay for. We look forward to seeing you!

We all know cats are highly intelligent beings. No surprise, as soon as we began to move in to our new headquarters, we discovered a new arrival who showed up under a building. Welcome KASHI (kitten at Sheltering Hands, Inc.). Kashi supervises all the activites going on, working for regular meals and attention. Does this girl know how to pick 'em or what?
We all know REAL men love cats and these great guys, members of  Trinity Catholic High School  Celtics football team and their coach, Joe Sturdivant, stopped by to lend some muscle and enthusiasm to our remodeling efforts. Thanks guys!

Have you seen our updated adoption room? Penny, our Adoption Supervisor, has worked hard to make the area inviting and friendly. Penny and our volunteers are doing a wonderful job and adoptions are up! In fact, with the increased use of our  Facebook page, many people are falling in love over the internet and cats are being asked for before they even make it to PetSmart! It's not just kittens heading to loving homes, many of our adult and senior cats have found their special people in the past few months.  Please visit us at our redesigned website and Facebook pages to get helpful news, see our cats awaiting adoption and enjoy the many happy pictures from families who have adopted our cats. It will put a smile on your  face for sure. Click on the links at the bottom of this newsletter to go directly to our website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
