Roadshow PALGA Portal in full swing!

The PALGA Portal, the one-stop-shop to request pathology data and material from diagnostic pathology laboratories, is up and running for two years now. A good reason to visit all 43 pathology laboratories to recall the purpose of the Portal, evaluate its usefulness and pave the way for the (sustainable) future. About halfway now, we have collected critical, but constructive remarks, answered many questions about the GDPR, and received mainly positive feedback. Read more

How can researchers deal with incidental findings? Guidance document gives practical tools

Incidental findings are a major ethical concern in biomedical research. Consistent policies and practices for the detection, management and communication of incidental findings across biobanks are lacking in the Netherlands. Within BBMRI-NL a practical-ethical guidance document was developed to give researchers the necessary tools. The guide describes a framework with seven steps for which decisions must be made by researchers, for example regarding the management and communication of incidental findings. Moreover, it provides practical examples of how other research groups have set up their pathways for the handling of incidental findings. Read more

BBMRI-NL voucher results in practical research tool for high school students and teachers

High school students have very little experience with doing research, which they need for their profile assignment. For scientific institutes, this moment is a golden chance to enthuse students for science. The online tool ‘Smart steps in your Own Research’, helps them to prepare for their profile assignment and final exams. It is developed by researchers from LUMC and VU, with financial support from the 2016 BBMRI-NL voucher project. Read more about this interactive programme


Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) app

On May 25th, 2018 the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came in effect. The DPIA app, developed by BBMRI-NL, gives researchers useful tools to show they are GDPR compliant.
