Dear <<First Name>>,

Eph 1.15,16 says, "For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you..."  We echo Paul's words when we think about you and your ongoing prayers and support of our work of Bible translation. Thank you!

New CEO for TWFTW

We want to give a warm welcome to the new CEO of The Word for the World International, Kobus van As wegan (on left of photo above). He took this position from the 1st of July 2020. He will be leading the organisation in terms of its vision and strategy for completing 500 full Bibles by 2050.

Kobus and his wife, Janet, are experienced in Bible translation and literacy. They spearheaded our work in Ethiopia, which now has 26 projects, and in SE Asia, which currently has 53 projects. We have full confidence that God will continue to use Kobus and Janet in this new role. Pray with us for God's anointing and blessing for their work. (The photo below is of Kobus and Janet at the Maale Bible launch in Ethiopia).

We salute Dr Veroni Kruger who has handed the leadership of TWFTW to Kobus. Veroni Kruger established TWFTW in South Africa in 1981. He has served God faithfully in his vision of building TWFTW as a recognised Bible translation agency. The work has grown exponentially under his leadership and TWFTW currently has 136 Bible translation projects worldwide.  Veroni and his wife, Martie, continue to serve TWFTW in many profound ways in the translation and promotions departments respectively. Thank God with us for their faithful service, and ongoing involvement.

Please join us in praise for:

  • The faithful labours of our former leader of TWFTW, Dr Veroni Kruger, and how the work has grown under his visionary leadership.
  • Technology has really helped us to continue connecting to people on the field, Consultants are effectively using it check translations remotely even during the Corona Lockdown.
  • We are excited about the 26 New Testaments and 7 Bibles which are being prepared for publishing for people groups in SE Asia, Ethiopia and Tanzania.

SE Asia online check

Samuel M., one of the national consultants in SE Asia, is doing virtual checking with the Kechep team using Microsoft Teams. Due to lockdown and travel restrictions, he is checking Proverbs and Psalms using an internet connection, and it is working beautifully. The above photo shows what his computer screen looks like as he discusses each verse with the translators who are also working from their homes. Please click here if you would like to see the Launch of the Kechep New Testament.

Barry Funnell has been doing online checking with the Roma team in Slovakia for many years using Skype. He has checked over 80% of the Old Testament. The goal is to finish the Roma Bible by the end of 2021.
The Kechep NT was launched in 2017. The team are working hard on the Old Testament.

Please pray with us for:

  • Our new CEO of TWFTW, Kobus, started in this role on the 1st of July. Pray for wisdom, vision, and a smooth transition for Kobus and his wife, Janet, who will be his assistant.
  • Our annual Executive Management Team will be meeting via Zoom on the 28th and 29th of July. Pray for a productive meeting and good outcomes from the important decisions that need to be made.
  • Pray for the efficient publication process of the 26 New Testaments and 7 Bibles recently approved for publication. Also pray for the already published scriptures (34 New Testaments and 2 Bibles) to powerfully impact the lives of the communities that have received them.
  • Please pray about the political turmoil in Ethiopia and the safety of our 26 translation teams there. The internet has been shut down and there have been over 145 deaths due to political violence.
  • Barry Funnell is checking all the minor prophets with the Slovakian Roma team next week using skype. Click here for more information on the Roma.
