Dear <<First Name>>,

With the ongoing pandemic, travel restrictions, and even panic buying here in the UK, we want to thank God that "His Word is not chained" as it says in 2 Tim 2.9. God is in control and His work will continue unhindered in our lives as well as abroad, among the nations. Thank you for your interest and partnership in Bible translation.

TWFTW vs lockdown

A definite secret of our success as a Bible translation organisation has been the empowering of indigenous people to take responsibility for their own Bible translation needs. It was a wonderful day to hear our 1ndian National Director say, "We are totally foreigner free!"

The above photo is of the Bonde cluster of 4 languages in Tanzania, who had their Gospel of Mark consultant checked from 19 to 30 September. (There are no Covid lockdowns in Tanzania.) This new cluster project was started by Tanzanians, and was consultant checked by two local Tanzanian consultants who are currently doing MTh degrees and have been mentored for several years by many of TWFTW's consultants. I (Barry) have checked their consultant report, and they have done an excellent job. Our international consultants didn't need to travel under difficult lockdown restrictions.

Our aim in the countries where we work is to train translators, exegetes, consultants and management teams so they can work totally independanty, or "foreigner free". We help, primarily, in training (much of which is done by competent local lecturers) using TWFTW training materials. We also help in financial support, and much needed prayer support, which is where your valuable partnership with us is still so needed.
Barry describes how our work continues to flourish inspite of lockdown

Please join us in praise for:

  • 1ndia, Ethiopia and Tanzania are able to do consultant checking "foreigner free", as their own local and national consultants have been trained.
  • Our Diploma in Bible translation training programme is soon going to be delivered online in various countries like SE Asia, Slovakia, and Nigeria.
  • Online consultant checking has been happening in spite of Covid lockdowns. Psalms, Proverbs and Genesis have been checked in SE Asia; the minor prophets and Isaiah in Slovakia., and Mark was checked in Tanzania with 4 language teams.

Zoom to SE Asia

This photo is from the desk of a collegue in M***r, SE Asia, who joined me (Barry) for one week via zoom to help consultant check the book of Genesis with a translation team in the north of M***r. I was also mentoring Samuel, a national consultant from NE 1ndia, who will soon be qualified as an international consultant.

We were all 1000's of miles apart, yet could work unhindered, no travel restrictions, due to the wonders of the internet! Samuel finished the checking of Genesis via Zoom in a further two weeks, emailing me any translation issues where he needed my help.

Zambia DBT training

Our Diploma in Bible Translation course will be taking place for 1 month from 26 October in Lusaka. Last year there were 21 translators from 11 languages spoken in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Bostwana, Malawi and Mozambique. It is a good central point in Southern Africa.

Pray for the lecturers and new and returning students. Zambia now has 8 Bible translation projects, and 2 New Testaments have been published. We have 4 in Zimbabwe and 2 in Malawi.

Please pray with us for:

  • Regine, our International Director of Training, broke her wrist badly in August. Pray for her to regain total movement and function.
  • Pray for the students and lecturers in the DBT training in Zambia in October. Pray also for the three online training programmes for SE Asia in November for translators who speak Hindi, Burmese and Oriya languages.
  • Please pray for the start of the Taabua OT project in October in Moba, DRC (on the eastern boarder). The new translators are Raphael, Jean and Fredrick.
  • Despite the pandemic, Bible translation work has continued in almost all of the 130 projects. Pray for ongoing protection against the virus, and for good health, wisdom in translation, the training programmes, literacy, and publishing which is all taking place.
