 October 2022
Dear <<First Name>>.

We trust you are keeping well, as are we, by God's grace. We have a brief video update to share with you. Instead of giving you lots of words to read, this time we would like to share with you a selfie-video we made in the town centre of Sabinov, Slovakia, when we visited there for our TWFTW Europe conference for 5 days in September.
Greetings from Slovakia at TWFTW's Europe conference
Barry was privileged to consultant check almost the entire East Slovakia Romani Old Testament over a 6-year period, except for two books which were checked by other consultants. He checked Genesis face-to-face with the team in Slovakia, but  all the other checking was done via Skype from our homes in the UK, Slovakia, and Israel (the exegete on the team, Michal, is based in Israel).  The wonders of modern technology saved a lot of travel time and accommodation costs. Here is a one minute clip from 2018 (https://youtu.be/iF6B0j0gzYc) where Barry was checking Chronicles. This Bible is now being typeset and should be published in 2023.

New logo

As you can see, The Word for the World has a new modernised logo, which we will be using from now on. Our marketing team, together with our support bases in South Africa, the USA and the UK are working hard to raise the profile of TWFTW through church engagements, strengthening relationships with our partners, social media ,etc. Please pray for us to be able to support our growing work. We now have 250 full-scale Bible translation projects.

Family news

We had a wonderful time as a family in Murcia, Spain, during the heat wave in Europe this summer. It was great to be together for a whole week with Lisa, Tim and Daniel, plus Lisa's husband and our sweet grandchildren, Kalea and Mars. One of my highlights was swimming in the sea twice - note the buggy provided by the authorities on some beaches to help disabled swimmers in Spain and Portugal.

Thereafter, our children flew home, but Julia and I drove to Portugal for a further week where we were able to share about our work in a church in the Algarve. In Portugal, our 19-year-old car developed a crack in the rear suspension arm , but we are grateful to report that we made it all the way home, though with some ominous squeaking and squawking the whole way.
Praises:
  • A successful Europe conference and further training of 3 Roma teams from Serbo-Croatia in September.
  • A good family holiday in Spain as part of Barry's 60th birthday celebrations.
Prayers:
  • Barry's coordination of the consultant checking of 250 Bible translation projects.
  • Barry is going to an Innovation Lab meeting in the USA in November for the collaborative effort of speeding up and enhancing the quality of Bible translations.
  • Training and mentoring of 45 new Bible translation consultants in 2023.
All our love and gratitude,
Barry and Julia
