A life and ministry update:

« Year's End - 2017 »

A Look Back and Forward

I can't believe we are coming up on our three year anniversary of moving to Japan! We've had travel opportunities, improvement in language, taken on more ministry responsibilities, made many many new friends, our daughter has grown and changed, and we're now expecting a new edition to our family at the end of May.

The end of 2017 was especially busy for us. Between regular life and ministry, doctors appointments for new baby, and holidays, we also traveled to the Midwest for a brief trip around Thanksgiving. We took a three week trip, for the International Conference on Missions (ICOM) exhibiting with the Say Yes to Japan ministry, and as much family and friend visiting as we could cram into our short trip.

Besides getting to enjoy Thanksgiving with the Missouri Kilsons, all the Alaskan grandparents came down to meet us in the Midwest for a brief visit, and my sister Amy and friends from Iowa and Oregon came over to visit us as well. It was such a whirlwind trip, I didn't even remember to take pictures through most of it! But we thoroughly enjoyed our time, and the chance to announce to our family in person that we are expecting Baby Kilson #2! That was truly a treat to surprise them all, but so hard to keep it a secret until November!
We had a wonderful Christmas, which was especially enjoyable this year because Naomi can understand that it is a special season, and loved to hear about baby Jesus and play with her plush nativity set. I might add she also loved getting presents. Now every package that gets delivered to the house, she thinks may be a present for her.

Travis started his year of with an exciting 10 day trip to Israel and Jordan. The trip was organized by Osaka Bible seminary, and they had invited missionaries and ministers to attend. We initially dismissed the idea of him joining in on the trip for financial reasons, but there was a special donation given to bring down the trip cost, and God blessed us with extra funds at the end of the year so that he was able to join last minute and attend. It was a once in a lifetime experience!
It has been a practice in faith to live on support these past two, almost three years. Our income was down at the beginning of last year and we wondered if we would be able to maintain the plans that we made for the year, but God has been faithful! We trusted in His provision and He has provided for us over and over. There have been so many little ways that He has shown us that He is providing for us through the generosity of our supporters.

Last fall, amidst our travels and holiday season, we were wondering what to do about our housing situation, as we have a new family addition on the way. It had been on our minds that we would like to move closer to the church to a bigger place for more elbow room for our growing family and so we would be more able to host people in our home; we just couldn't see how we could afford a bigger place with our current budget. We prayed and God worked out the details! We are excited to be moving at the end of this month to a wonderful new place just 10 minute walk from church!

I wish I could tell you about all the ways we continue to be blessed, but that would make for a long newsletter! We are thankful for how far He's brought us, and the vision He's given us for the future. We are thankful for all of you walking alongside us in prayer and support. Thank you for taking part in our ministry, and for being one of the ways that God shows His blessings in our lives.
