A life and ministry update:

« January 2021 »

Hello friends and family. We hope that the first month of the new year has gone well for you. In the month of January in Tokyo, as well as in the rest of Japan, we saw the numbers of Covid cases rise, and the Japanese government along with the newly elected Prime Minister Suga issued another month-long state of emergency order, which they then extended through the month of February as well.

The state of emergency that was issued last spring was different than this time around; they have excluded closing schools, theaters, concerts etc. from the order. As our church gathering is small split into two services, and we practice social distancing, wearing masks, and such, we have continued to hold Sunday services. We also put services online so that people may watch from home if they are concerned about gathering. It continues to be a bizarre and often frustrating time to try to engage in our community, but we are carrying on as much as we can, with any necessary modifications.

Along with regular Sunday services, Tim Turner and Travis are still hosting in-person English Bible Studies once a week, we have a Zoom Bible study once a week as well, and we continue with Haruka Otsuka in teaching after-school English classes. With each group we do what we can to teach about the Bible, and show the love of Christ in our interactions with the attendees.

Last week we received word from Naomi's school that there was a positive case of Covid in the student body. This is the first we have heard of a positive case in our immediate circle. While we are not overly concerned with getting sick, as we are all healthy and without underlying conditions. However, we are now close to my due date for our son to be born, and if Travis gets sick in the two weeks prior to the delivery, he will not be permitted to attend the birth with me. Please pray with us that Covid would be kept at bay, specifically in this time. Also please join us in prayer for February 24th at 11am Japan Standard Time, the day Becky is scheduled to deliver our son via C-section! We are very excited and praying for a safe, smooth delivery with no complications. We can't wait to meet him and introduce him to you all!
While it is easy to feel pessimistic about life and the state of the world, we know that we can still have hope! Tim Turner and Travis are working on a sermon series of hope through the beginning of the year and I don't think it could come at a better time. We often get distracted with the chaos of the world going on around us. However, even if the world were succumbing to all the perils that the news and media online report, even if the earth was crumbling around us, we can still hope in Christ. Jesus made us this promise in John 16:33, "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Though we are promised trouble in this life, we are also promised that Jesus has already won, and in Him we also have victory. Thanks be to God!
We have been continually blessed by our supporters, friends and family. We have had more than enough support to be financially ready for hospital costs. And though we didn't need much for baby gear, we did have several gifts that we used for baby clothes, and a few household items to be ready for baby boys arrival. We thank you all. We pray that you will be secure in the hope we have in Christ and encouraged in your day to day by those around you, as we are also daily encouraged by your partnership.

God Bless,
The Kilsons
