Dear Friends of M/V Lotus,

It has been an even quieter winter than usual here on the Historic Ships Wharf on Lake Union in Seattle. Lotus, our sister ships along the quay, the Museum of History and Industry, and the Center for Wooden Boats are all closed due to the COVID-19 situation.

It helps offer some perspective to realize that M/V Lotus and her original owner, Maurice McMicken and family, all lived through the 1918-19 Spanish Flu pandemic, stay-at-home orders and all. One hundred years on, we're experiencing something similar.

This is usually the time of year we are opening our doors and seeing a resurgence of visitors and guests, taking tours through the boat and starting their Seattle vacations with a stay on board.

This year, we do not expect to open until the 1st of June, at the earliest, and in line with public health department guidance. The safety of our visitors, guests, and crew are paramount.

Until you can drop by, check out the lovely video on our website for a tour.

Like so many non-profits, this is a difficult time for the M/V Lotus Foundation. Mr. McMicken had deep pockets in 1918, but we rely on you, the public, for most of what pays to keep Lotus afloat.

We are once again participating in the Give Big campaign and asking that you consider us when making your donations anytime through May 6. Although all our spring plans have been cancelled, our expenses have not--insurance remains one of our largest costs, and it is particularly hard to cover during this time. We also make it easy for you to donate through the Give Big webpage, using the link below.
Right now, we are waiting, like all of you, for more information on the next phase of the COVID-19 response plan. In June we hope to be available for overnight stays all month and for a Sunday Tea on June 14. We will be taking extra precautions after restrictions are lifted:
  • Only people from the same household will be booked for overnight stay on a given date
  • We will adhere to recommended cleaning procedures in between guests and visitors
  • We will maintain distancing guidelines on board

So please do make a reservation for a stay or tea aboard Lotus this summer! After being inside for so long, a day with Lotus by the lake will be just lovely, and you will be helping us to preserve this wonderful boat. Pick a date and give our reservation person, Dan, a call to make your reservation at 425-243-9641.

Stay safe and well!
