  • Latinx Heritage Month Events: October 13 | October 20 | 12:00 -1:00 pm | Join the Alianza Staff Organization for a vibrant line up of virtual events during Latinx Heritage Month. Through a series of events, we hope to learn more about what it means to be Latinx in the US and discuss or engage with topics pertinent to our communities. Topics include UC Berkeley’s efforts to become a Hispanic Serving Institution, the LGBTQIA+ community, and more! We hope you can join us.   • CUCSA Meeting Update: Your Council of University of California Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) Delegates Brian Light and Arlene Banaga attended the first quarterly CUCSA meeting on September 2-4. In support of the mission of the University of California it is the purpose of the Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) to maintain and enhance communication within the University Community on matters of interest to staff employees in accordance with California laws and Regent policy. In addition to meeting host site leadership during the CUCSA meetings, topics were presented and discussed: 
          -21 Day Anti-Racism Challenge at UCSD and UCI Black Initiatives
          -Work Groups: “Basic needs with an emphasis on mental health,”               “Alternative work arrangements with an emphasis on                                    telecommuting,” “Staff Advocacy with an emphasis on                                compensation.”

  • Berkeley Forum Presents Dr. Anthony Fauci: October 8 | 5:00 pm-5:45 pm | Live Streamed via Facebook. Dr. Fauci will discuss how the coronavirus could affect the abilities of colleges to re-open safely and the broader impact of the virus on our country.
          
  • Yoga for Tension and Stress Relief: October 9 | 12:10 pm-1:00pm | Via Zoom. Instructor Laurie Ferris practices yoga that can help  to release tension in your joints, give you greater range of motion, and offer increased comfort in all aspects of your life.   • Recipes for Disaster Preparedness: October 16 | 12:10 pm-1:00 pm | In the event of an earthquake, wildfire, or pandemic, our food options become more limited. This workshop will help prepare you with food safety knowledge, a sample grocery list of smart staples to stock, and a few simple recipes. Register

  • Rosie Lee Tompskin A retrospective: Virtual exhibit until December 20, 2020. Part of one of the largest collections of quilts by African American artists donated by art scholar and collector Eli Leon now at BAMPFA. 
  • UCB Library Workshops and Makerspace: Check out the UC Berkeley Library Makerspace website and the library workshops calendar for various projects you can do at home and virtual workshops you can attend.
  • Halloween Fun with the Student Union: Visit the Student Union’s website for virtual events for Halloween treats, pumpkin decorating, and much more! Visit website.
Family/Social:
  • Keeping Children Safe Online: Social Media Safety: October 21 | 10:00 am -11:00 am | Register for Webinar: The topic of the Living Security's Family First Series is on “Threats Around the Corner and in our Homes.” Join us for this powerful and informative webinar to learn more about Why your kids should only connect with and interact with people they’ve met and trust personally; not a friend of a friend. Much more will be discussed!  
  • Cal Parents with School Age Children: This is a CalTeach Stem program to help school age kids with STEM education. CalTeach is a program for undergraduate STEM majors with an interest in exploring a career in education. The CalTeach STEM Ambassador program will provide opportunities for students K-12 to receive planned enrichment activities, tutoring, support, and/or motivation in understanding Math or Science through remote/virtual means.   
  • Pleasant Events Calendar for Kids and Teens: One way to help children and teens develop self-compassion is by encouraging them to make time to explore their interests and engage in activities they enjoy through the use of a Pleasant Events Calendar. You can think of it as a form of self-care for kids.
Social Justice: BSA Wide:
  • Brown Bag Networking Lunch “Our favorite Staff Resources”: October 7 | 12:00 pm-1:00 pm | Via Zoom | Members of the New Professionals Network committee (NPN) will share their favorite staff resources, perks, and benefits available to staff throughout the year.   • Social Hour "What We're Eating & Drinking": October 21 | 5:15 pm-6:30 pm | Via Zoom | Join NPN for a refreshing after-work virtual mixer!   • Spieker Pool and Golden Bear Pool Access: Staff and faculty who have been authorized to work on campus, as well as currently enrolled UC Berkeley students, may use the pools by reservation only. 
  • COVID-19 Testing Expands: Asymptomatic surveillance testing program is expanding to offer free COVID-19 testing to more of the campus community and opening an additional testing site. Testing expands to students living off campus and faculty and staff who are currently working on campus.
