Staff Organization Spotlight:
Asian Pacific American Systemwide Alliance (APASA)
In one sentence, briefly explain what your Staff Organization does/its mission:
The mission of APASA is to promote the general welfare of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) staff, faculty, and students at UC Berkeley.

How does your Staff Organization benefit UC Berkeley staff?
We advocate for the API community, promote inclusivity, provide the visibility of API staff, offer leadership and professional development opportunities, create community-building and networking opportunities, and help to develop members' confidence in their intersectional identities.

How can staff get involved with your Staff Organization? In what kinds of events and/or outreach does your Staff Organization engage?
We host an annual Lunar New Year celebration, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month events, and numerous other events such as mentorship groups, professional development panels, book discussions, community spaces, and more. We also offer a scholarship to Berkeley staff to attend the Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE) conference.

What’s the best part of being in this Staff Organization?
Meeting API staff from all across campus and being part of such a welcoming, caring, and diverse community.

Name one thing you learned by being part of this Staff Organization?
That there is a wonderful network and community of API staff and faculty at Cal, and how to be a more intentional part of uplifting and celebrating the API community.

What are your Staff Organization's current and future goals?
With the recent uptick and visibility of anti-Asian violence, our goals are to continue to support and celebrate the API community, promote the well-being and professional development of API staff and faculty, advocate for and visibilize the needs of the API community on campus, and collaborate with our partners to fulfill our commitments to anti-racism (
